A small side on the cane bit, the PT will have you get one that will be of a determined length for your height.

After 6 months or so I noticed that I was getting lower back aches and beginning to bend at the waist a bit, made me look like an old lady.

I found a walking stick that reached my elbow allowing me to stand up straight and adjust my grip to navigate all kinds of terrain.

There are hiking sticks on the market for less then $20.00 that you can adjust the height and come with different tips for walking in ice and snow, or for walking about your yard in good weather.

I found that most malls for a deposit will rent you very cheap a motorised wheelchair and Walmart has them for no cost.

Good luck and be very careful with crutches, I hate the darn things, they for me at least are a nuances.

BTW I don't know if you have cats or dogs but if you do, have them locked up when you first get home as they will be so excited to see you .If you just come in the door they will be all over you and you can very easily trip over them.  I found out the hard way that as long as I was seated when they first see me and given an hour or so to  adjust to me home again, no problem.

Ree, after writing to you about what happens when you will need a cane for a few months I did an on line search to find something unique for myself.

Look at what I found.......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDVIukJgsEw&NR=1&feature=fvwp

Walking sticks with an attitude.  This site was developed 5 years ago and I have no idea if the artist is still alive and creating outrageous art.

Strange that the people who developer  these walking canes and hiking staffs make a good living making and selling these ancient devices are so numerous.   I found a few sites on the martial arts that have you tube demonstrations of how these canes can be used for self defence against thugs, to ward off loose dogs, and uncontrollable children at WalMart.

The sites for hikers showed how their staffs can be used to climb up uneven ground and ford creeks, the Nordic areas show how to hike on ice and snow.

One site had a list of all out 50 states and in none of them is a walking stick considered a weapon.

I have been thinking of how Hubby can make some of these to sell at flee markets,
short ones for kids with a broken ankle or leg to young and old who need a short time 3rd. leg for balance.

Strange how these things happen 5 years ago on my first trio to Washington DC I noticed that my legs were painfull and paid $20.00 for an Umberella cane.  I was ignoring the problem, as Hubby was in pain from walking for hours to one place to another. Little did I know at that time that the cane would become a fixture in my life forever.

When one gets Lemons, use them in unique ways.

Oh, I am so happy to hear your news!

Instead of a wobbly cane, wouldn't this work better?  It's a Hugo rolling walker.  Sold online and in the big box stores.
