Curious question for people who have moles at DU
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:54:04 PM »
No, I don't want you to reveal who you are, but what I want to know if the plan is to go out in a blaze of glory at some time?

I also want to know if any "friendships" were formed at all over there.

I don't expect anyone to come in and say "yes I am a mole, and I plan to go out or not to go out in a blaze of glory", but I would like to discuss it if it can be discussed without revealing anyone.

I also have a poster in mind that could or could not be a mole, but again I am not trying to call anyone out in that sense. DU is now for me to make fun of. I did spend a lot of time there, and I did make some friends, but as a whole DU sucks majorly, and I get a kick out of it too.

Generally speaking, most moles like to wait until an appropriate moment to go out in a blaze of glory. Some of them have been legendary :-) The DUmpster forum here is filled with lots of goodies - not just moles burning but general, pull up a chair and make popcorn kind of fun.

I can't speak for everyone because I'm sure the motivations are as different as the person when it comes to why they have a mole and what their plan is in terms of going out/poking the hive.

We have never really dedicated a section here to moles for obvious reasons but it is really fun to sit back and observe the antics on DU.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

What is funny to me is that people at DU hated the moles (of course), thought they were stupid for wasting their time, yet many DUers had moles at FR. The place is filled with hypocrites.

Plus the additional fact that moles are a closely guarded secret.......not even the moles know who the other moles are, so it becomes an interesting game.

It has been joked about both here and at other boards, that if all  the moles magically left DU, they would have less than half their posting membership.  I suspect that is not far from the truth.

I have to say there are a few WAAAAAAY out there people that I think must be moles because a sane person could not possibly think that way, yet there are always people who applaud the posts these people make. So, I always wonder are they a mole that got people to agree with such craziness, or are they actually just crazy? I guess that is part of the game.

Once was a time I had a DU mole.  "Aunt Steph" was the name.  I posted maybe three times before I got bored with it and "banned" myself.  I have no talent for being that stupid.

I'm ready to flame out any time now :lmao: the only reason I even have a mole there is because someone told me that the place goes into lockdown when they lose elections and you have to be registered to see the meltdown, so I registered. I thought about coming out of the closet while they were in meltdown mode just to annoy them, but I really don't know how much more stupidity I can take. I'm not a good mole because I can't go all out and be a kooky progressive, I just don't have it in me.

As far as friendships go? I haven't made any but that's by choice, I have nothing in common with people who call themselves socialists and be proud of it, be so pro-union and not see how self-serving the unions have become, and people who are just overall miserable. I have friends in real life who are liberals not progressives and we get along just fine, but they're not wacky like the people over there. You're what I call a sane liberal Soleil so I could be friends easily with someone like you in real life.

Just a curiosity question on my part, are your friends at DU still your friends? or do they think you went over to the darkside?

And I often wonder when I see way-out comments at FR if some DU people are moles LOL.

Yes, I am still friends with the people I was friends with. We are in contact through FB and another site. I made quite a few friends, and I consider them all sane. There a few who are more out there than others, but especially after seeing these people on boards outside of DU, I have found a new appreciation of them. A friendship that has nothing to do with politics.

Having said all that, I didn't venture too far out of my comfort zone on DU, and therefore, I have no clue who a lot of DUers are. When I finally did start posting in GD, I stood my ground on unpopular opinions  a lot. I agreed on some things, but there were others I couldn't stomach.

Oh, and I can't wait to see who you are. I'd love to know if we ever interacted.

I don't think we have but I honestly can't remember the majority of names over there anyway, it's just reading at this place that I'm starting to remember names, oh, for some reason I remember the name IndianaGreen but I haven't seen them for awhile, they said they were a Kucinich supporter and argued a lot with the Obamabots so I found that person amusing and wondered if they were really a mole.

I have to say that I was bad about keeping up who I was talking to sometimes too. Some just blend together.

I have a mole over there, but have only posted a handful of times. It is more fun to me to just sit back and read than to actually participate.  I go for the really crazy stories though, and tend to follow the ones who I think are  :mental:

I sometimes wonder if the really crazy leftists are moles, and the ones cheering them on are moles as well.

Good advice regarding the search for suicide run here on the DUmpster.  I've often wondered who has gone out in flames.  Thanks for the tip.

Some moles are too obvious. I prefer a more developed approach.

The character I play has a life and everything mapped out. Birthdays, siblings, romantic involvements, jobs, roommates, cable bills...the whole megilla. Emotional states over certain issues evolve as the story evolves or as the character resolves their coping. I've literally take months to work out a plot line.

Several DUers have PMed my mole and struck up "genuine" friendships. I even believe that, were it possible to meet and not have to play a character, there could be good conversations over beer.

My mole points out the hypocrisy of leftism by pushing leftist idealism. In other words, make them live up to their own standards.

But they won't because they can't. They talk a good game but when someone wants them to actually be the ideal they get nasty.

It isn't "Leftism doesn't work" but more along the lines "we should just hang the GOPers" vs "No, we're the good guys." And that was the characters intent from the beginning. The soap opera life is just a backdrop to insulate the character.

It works pretty good because people buy me stars and hearts all the time.

That's fascinating, kudos to you for pulling it off, I don't have the patience for that though, and the few times I've in a roundabout way knocked Republicans I've felt guilty, I'm stubborn though and have a hard time spouting kooky leftist ideas. I have to decide whether or not it's worth the energy to really go for it or just flame-out. So is the meltdown when they lose elections really worth viewing?

Tread very lightly on this issue in here.  This smells like a mole trap to me no matter what you say.  I'll lock this thread in a heartbeat if my my gut gets any more nervous about this.

Everyone here knows that DU lurks and reads here.  First person that comes to me and says their mole got burned means you're @ss is in a big sling.

I will neither confirm nor deny that I have planted a mole over there, but if I do, I would played like MSB - as a role playing game with a fully developed persona.

I will also neither confirm nor deny that those who I believe are genuine DUers have been banned because we have identified them as moles both here in the DUmpster, and with Pizza comments and alert button mashing over there.

Excellent statement.  I can neither confirm nor deny.  That way you have plausible denability no matter what the outcome.  Also the absence of proof is not proof of absence of moles or moling activity . MSB provides excellent guidance.

I remember a great opus from one high post mole many years ago who was beloved by many.  It was a shock an awe moment at the dump.  I really wish I had saved that thread which was locked if not scrubbed.

For openers I suspect Skinner knows the whole place is a mole hill but does nothing major to prevent or remove them because they do help keep the lights on.  Face facts, the grand political crusade is only in the minds of the few true believers many of whom are probably certifiable and have little life outside posting on the internet.  For Skinner it is abut the bucks $$.  Moles and 'banned' sites create buzz, buzz creates traffic, traffic creates $$ and $$ means Skinner eats well.  It wouldn't even be hard to believe Skinner running a site like this to generate traffic. :uhsure:

As someone pointed out lock down is a good reason to keep a mole handy.  Good moles, like good soldiers, know when to keep their heads down and when to pop up to blow the claymores (alert). Good moles do more than K/R N/T to pump the post numbers.

Speaking of moles it would appear Wee Willie Pitt is still able get his truthout.  Anyone think Skinner is that dumb?   :fuelfire:
