Aside from just harassing Undies in my post, in a way I do agree with BSS. There are some idiots in the Oministration who think they can plot a path to benefit the Dems and their platform on this in several ways, in that they see it angering the populace against the 'Drill' crowd, existing Republican administrations in the Gulf shore states, and corporations generally. These individuals, probably including Rahmbo, see this as an opportunity to be cynically used to break opponents and pave the way for cap-and-trade as a comprehensive re-do of the entire energy program.
However, they are quite mistaken in this approach, since the one thing the vast majority of the American electorate expects of the President and the Federal executive, all across the spectrum of mainstream voters, is that when shit breaks, they fix it. That ain't happening, and even the lap-dogs in the MSM are beginning to look up at the President with a 'My bowl's empty, where's the damned dog food, genius?' look on their faces.
I don't think Obama is that 'smart,' which in this case is a blessing for him, because the guys thinking those mistaken thoughts are busy being 'too smart by half.' Obama himself is just a photogenic and personable guy with a resonant voice, but the soul of an incompetent ditherer. He gives good speeches when they're fed to him and signs books written for him, but as his incessant harping on everything Bush shows he hasn't a clue about taking charge - or above all responsibility - for what happens on his watch.
He expected to benefit heavily from the natural upturn of the economy after it bottomed out, but his own policies and ineptitude in both foreign and economic affairs have prevented that from playing out as hoped, so he keeps dropping back to punt the Bush meme.
