One week after a controversial cross was mysteriously removed from its perch in the Mojave National Preserve, a new one has appeared, the Victorville Daily Press reports.

The original cross, which was erected 76 years ago for a war memorial, has been the center of a legal dispute over the issue of separation of church and state.

In April, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to order its removal and instructed a federal judge to take a new look at a congressional plan to transfer land under the cross to private ownership.

It was not immediately clear whether the latest cross is the old one or a replica.

One week after a controversial cross was mysteriously removed...

I am getting plenty sick of the misuse of the word "controversial".  The Cross was not "controversial".  What was controversial was the attempt to have it removed using the nonexistent "separation of church and state" as the reason.
