My grandma...
« on: May 17, 2010, 04:59:01 PM »
My Mom sent me a picture of my grandma, she is on the left (it's my Dad's Mom).  It was taken in 1942.  She was born Dec. 1913 so she is almost 29 in the picture.  It is weird to see my grandma looking young, she is 96 and a PITA today.  I wonder what she was like back in 1942?

Ewww, that just seems wrong.  My grandpa was pretty good looking back in the day.  He had really nice hair, when it was grey it looked like silver, not the dull grey that most people's hair turns.  My grandpa used to call me Judy (for those of you who don't know my name is Julie).   He would say, "Judy Judy Judy".

I came across a picture of my grandma wearing a miniskirt.  Who knew they made dresses that tiny in the 1920's?

*shudder*

The 1920's were a lot like the 1960's.  Sex, drugs, and pop culture exploded.  Then the Depression cooled it all down real fast.  Thank God for the Depression.

Actually, Cary Grant never said that line, although it has been attributed to him.

That's a cool picture!  I love old photos.

And, heck, at 96 I imagine she can be however she wants or comes up with for the day!

My brother and I talk about this frequently (and my Mom too, this is my Dad's mom...actually my dad talks about it too).  My grandma has ALWAYS been the way she is, it has nothing to do with age.  I would LOVE to have a cute old grandma that was positive and sweet.  She isn't.  Like I said above, she is like Gladys Kravitz from Bewitched X 100.  I do remember good things when I was little, she used to tell stories all the time from when she was young.  I loved listening to her stories.  She can also laugh at herself.  The rest, well....it isn't so fun.

Reminds me of my grandma (84). I love her to death, but she was not that sweet old grandma that many people have. She is nosy, bossy, judgmental. She has few redeeming qualities actually, that is if you don't really know her. It took me until I was in my 20's to appreciate her. I will surely miss her when she is gone, but damn she can be hard to deal with. It on;y gets worse as she gets older. Hardcore. That is how I describe my grandma.

Your grandma was a beautiful woman, BEG.

My maternal grandmother was the best.  She was exactly like Aunt Bea.

Not so fast.  Aunt Bea (Frances Bavier) suffered with mental illness and emotional issues.  :)

The actress or the character?  I meant the character.  Kind, giving, and gentle.  Kinda looked like her, too.  Grandmotherly.  Plump with print dresses.

I met 2 grandmothers and 1 grandfather.

My favorite grandmother, the one I was named after was that typical sweet, loving grandmother...I still miss her till this day.  My other grandmother was always sick, (diabetic, blind, kidney issues) so we never really bonded.

My grandfather, on the other hand, was very difficult to deal with.  He was a towering 6'3", mean as hell...all the grandkids were afraid of him.  I hated when my parents would drop me off there...I always wanted to be with my other grandmother.

He got better as we got older......but no sweet and fuzzy stories from my mother's side of the family.

So neat! Even if she's Gladys Kravitz you have to wonder what she must have been like back then. I LOVE old pictures. There is a site you guys might like called www.myparentswereawesome.com that has old pictures people have posted of their parents and relatives.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

As you know, I really enjoyed your grandma when I spoke with her, but I am sure she can be a pita if she puts her mind to it. I need to scan in some pics of my grandma, she was a flapper kind of gal with pin curls. 5 foot nothing and 95 pounds soaking wet.
