Yesterday the NCOIC at the state's public affairs (public relations for the military) office offered me the opportunity to write articles for them. It seems they are understaffed but don't have the budget to hire people.

It doesn't pay but it does get me by-lines and those can be worth their weight in gold when other publishers start asking, "Yes, but what have you done professionally?"

Obviously it is a serious writing gig but the irony is I was offered the chance after she read some of my BNN stories I was pimping.

Sentence structure, grammar, style...that sort of thing. She said I mimicked the dry, sanitized style of news reporting very accurately.

This will definitely be a challenge because I'm thinking I'm going to have to quote the mayor of the town where the armory is being built, the CO Chief-of-Staff and others as well as getting my facts straight about the armory's tenancy, construction etc and that is a far cry from just making stuff up.

But hey, if I can fake my way through a wedding night I can get through this.

Congratulations! I'm still new enough not to know about BNN (spend too much time at the DUmpster I suppose).  Also, still don't know what cobbler refers to, but I can probably narrow it down.  I have a lot to learn.

ETA: Just started looking through the lounge posts and spotted a link to BNN. I'll check it out.
