Pope Sued in Wisconsin Clergy Sex Abuse Case

You could sue the Pope?  who knew?

Pope Sued in Wisconsin Clergy Sex Abuse Case

MILWAUKEE (April 22) -- A man who says he was molested by a priest while a student at a Catholic school for the deaf filed a federal lawsuit today against Pope Benedict XVI, the Vatican and senior church officials, saying the Vatican knew the priest was a pedophile and could have stopped the sexual abuse.
 <snip>

The lawsuit does not state what years the abuse took place. Murphy, who taught at the school from 1950 through 1974, died in 1998. He is accused of sexually abusing about 200 boys. His case made national headlines again recently after documents were released showing that then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict, knew about the abuse allegations and protected him from being removed from the clergy.

If, in fact, the leadership of the Catholic Church was aware of this pedophile, and instead of removing and prosecuting him, they moved him to another parish...they should be heavily fined and prosecuted.

I went to catholic schools all my life and never heard of anything foul happening in my church...but if the catholic church chose to buy off victims instead of bringing charges against these "priests", it is wrong.   And this is one of the main reasons catholicism has become a punch line.

There is a movie called "Doubt" that was recently shown on TV about this subject.  Very compelling performances, I thought.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0918927/

Why in the world is there such a widespread pedophile problem in the catholic church and that they continue to cover up/condone?  Sick.

There are pedophile problems in all religions! just easier to pick on the Catholic Church because their priests take a vow of celibacy.

How come no one ever talks about the Baptist Churches that do full body immersion baptismals? They put the females to be baptized in white robes over just their underwear. Now....tell me, just what happens to white sheeting when it becomes soaking wet? And all the parishoners are standing around watching.

Granted it's not pedophilia....but some of these women are teenage girls, some are adults. Creepy.

Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

"My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I've finished two bags of M&M's and a chocolate cake. I feel better already." – Dave Barry

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.

Well I'd guess because they don't make into the news so much.  Like, I never heard about Babtists in a negative way.  Oh, I can just imagine the men ogling the wet clothing.  Not creepy really- I don't think - they are just looking, which is natural I think to look.  Men are just so visual, ya know?  Men ---  :thatsright:

Not much said about the Catholic Orphanage's for the Canadian Indians children that sued the Church in the 1980's and won a huge amount of money in court but to this day has never been paid to the victims.

I worked with a man who was part of this and when he told me what he and his family went through I was appalled.

This man was 3 years old when the Canadian Government removed him and 11 other siblings from their home when their parents died in an accident.   They were placed in an orphanage run by the Church.

The family was NOT Catholic but the Church agreed to take them in.
This huge family had lived on some kind of reservation and adhered to the the old ways.

The [Tribe] for a better word was not large and could not afford to support the number of orphans so off they went , the oldest was 17,  my friend was the youngest.

He told me that as the church was to support them rather then the government everything the family owned was confiscated to be sold by the church to help with their upkeep.

The 17 year old was not included in the mix, he was sent off with the clothes on his back never to be heard from again.  Next in line a sister of 16 that disappeared never to be heard from again . The 15 year old brother hung himself. His next brother was found drowned in a field pond.

That is 4 siblings just gone from the family with both parents in less then 2 years leaving 8 little kids in the care of the Church.

Like something out of Charles Dickins these kids were in a living Hell.

As young as 3, if a child ,even if on their first night there traumatise by events wet the bed they were spanked.

Some of the boys were called out of bed at night to go to Father so and so's rooms for  Prayer Study.  They came back later bleeding and crying.

The Indian kids got the worse of it, if for any reason they spoke to each other in Tribal language, they were beaten.  If any of them dared to celebrate their family's holidays that were not Catholic got the belt.

The sisters were in an strange position, the plain ones had no problems but 2 of them were beautiful when they arrived but not when they left.  The Nuns were jealous and perhaps sex starved.

What ever, only 4 children out of a dozen from that family were able to survive and go on with a life carrying all that bagage.

What can one expect when people try to live a sexless life.  This is not natural and perhaps a perversion unto itself.

What can one expect from humans that believe that they can go against the law of nature and feel bad about it but be forgiven once a week.?---------- :fuelfire:

I suspect that a great deal of the Catholic Churches problems stem from a relatively high number of homosexuals that have invaded the priesthood.  There is a Catholic seminary north of where I live that had a recent scandal where the overwhelming number of gay initiates were abusing the few that were straight, eventually forcing them out.......There have been a number of studies that indicate that to a large degree.....homosexuals have a great deal of difficulty with "impulse control" in their sex lives.......many have up to 250 diffewrent "partners" in a given year........part of why I consider "gay marriage" a  joke........

Although I realize that there is a distinction between "homosexuality", and "pedophelia".......I consider them afflictions that are rather closely related psychologically.......to the extent that they can and do overlap.

As an aside.....I was baptised as a Baptist (by immersion), and although I wore a white coverlet, all my clothes were on under it.......and further, in most of the Baptist churches that I have attended, the baptistry is high, and behind the pulpit, so all the congregation can see is the head of the pastor, and the person being baptised......it was many years ago for me, but I suspect that they use swimming suits for this purpose now, under the coverlet.

Such a sad story.

There are just 3 of the family that are known to each other. The man I know came south to the USA, became a citizen, survived the Asian war, married and raised 2 sons.

He is now close to 70 years old, surprisingly still goes to Mass but augments the faith of his fathers into his life.

This is not a sad story for him, he was not one of those that sued the Church, a realist he feels that what was done was in the past, can't change sorrow with money.

He has been for 15 years now battling not the demons of his youth but a greater demon, his wife has 'Old Timers Disease"

The task before him now in his old age is more overwhelming then anything that happend in his youth.

For you and I who have by the grace of God never had to experience anything close to what his family went through, this is indeed sad.

For Him, he counts his blessings every time the sun rises.

I knew a WWII POW veteran some years ago who was like that.  He counted every shower, meal, etc. as a blessing every single day.  He really fully appreciated just being alive daily.
