I have had cats disappear for more than a month, and show up all scruffy looking after I had given up hope. I have also had cats just disappear never to be seen again. It sounds like the stray kitten is depending on you now though, so keep it up. Cats do know their way home, even indoor ones. And she probably wasn't as terrified of the outdoors as you were thinking. Cats love all the smells and prey.

I gotta a better look at the stray..she looks about 4 months, bigger than I thought and it's a siamese...absolutely gorgeous...she's been eating the food on the back terrace as she was standing there when I got home a few minutes ago...so she's been fed well...eating two cans a night....now that I know it's her...I'll just leave out one can in the garage and try to lure her in.
She hasn't come back..she's evidently very afraid of humans...she'll wait till I turn in and probably indulge on today's feast.
