Eye-black messages banned
« on: April 19, 2010, 10:09:14 PM »
Now this just pisses me off to no end. It's a small thing in and of itself, but it's part of the larger trend we've seen over the past half century in this country of businesses and organizations bending over and grabbing their ankles to appease a small minority of shit-stirring malcontents. The NCAA will protest that the ban was brought about as the result of "shout outs" of all kinds being placed on eye black tape. But guaranteed, it originated from some lifeless, walking rectums who just couldn't stand to see someone "proselytize" in such a way as Tim Tebow and made a big stink over it.

How miserable do you have to be to take such profound offense over something as innocent and harmless as a Bible verse on a little piece of tape?

Tim Tebow started a college football tradition the past few years by writing Bible verses on his eye black for each game. But that tradition is over — and not just because Tebow has graduated from the University of Florida.

On Thursday, the NCAA banned eye-black messages.

During his UF career, Tebow had thousands of fans looking up the Bible verses during and after each Gator game.

When he wrote "John 3:16" on his eye black for the 2008 national championship game against Oklahoma, Google experienced about 94 million searches for the verse.

I disagree with the eye-black thing, but of more concern is another rule the NCAA is instituting.  Specifically, taking away touchdowns and penalizing the team if the referees "interpret" that a player is taunting while a player scores a touchdown.  If you thought the SEC refereeing was suspect now, wait until this gets implemented. :banghead:

I know. That's ridiculous, too. I understand sportsmanship and all that, but dang, they seem to want to take every bit of the spirit out of things. Being able to take away the touchdown just gives them too much power for such a subjective call as celebrating.
