2-25 Storm...4 days later

Just in case ya'll think we're being whiny and "lightweights" up here:

The following were taken either in front of my house, or within a mile of the house.  ALL this damage was repaired within the last 24 hours.

Some of the photos were taken on my cell, so I apologize in advance for the crappy quality of some of them.

This WAS the tree that was in front of my house.  The power started flickering at 10:20 PM or so, failed for good around 10:40 PM, and this tree fell just after 11 PM.  You could literally hear it ripping out of the ground over the wind, which at the time was gusting to about 75-80 mph.

Held up partially by the phone/cable wiring, and partially by the branches.  The power lines had already snapped off the insulators.

Another tree and another power pole down the road.

Governor's Road, just around the corner.  Doesn't show the downed lines or poles very well.

About 1/4 mile further down Governor's Road.

As you can see, it was bad enough, but these pictures don't begin to do justice to how widespread and total the damage was.  Pretty much everyone around here agrees that it was WORSE than the ice storm of December 2008, despite all the work that was done to try to trim branches.  Winds around here were as high as 90 mph in Seabrook and the Isle of Shoals.  Couple that with about 7-8 inches of rain on already saturated ground which is only defrosted a couple of feet at most, and you get the idea.

Looks like there's gonna be plenty of firewood available.

It's pine--soft wood, which means while it may light real easy, it doesn't burn very hot or last very long.

Might as well burn balsa wood.  It's good for getting a fire started, then throwing hard woods like maple on it, but that's about it.

This road looks dangerous. Judging by the shot if you slide off the road you end up going down a steep embankment.  :o

Pine is good for... well, something.  Give me a minute and I'll think of it.  There was a bunch of pine around the area where I grew up.  It's just about worthless unless you just want a decorative fire or something that burns pretty.

Nah, just into a ditch.  The potholes and frost heaves are worse.  There have been a couple of cases (one on this road just last week) of people hitting potholes so hard their steering columns have snapped.
