So Rethugs insist we "sell across state lines"....

But also insist that state governments, not feds, regulate insurance in their own states.

uhm... how does that work?

1. It doesn't

After having worked in the Dept of Insurance in California, I can tell you that it is difficult enough to go after bad actors when they are in state. Allowing these carpetbaggers to sell across lines will be horrendous for consumer rights.

And the pukes KNOW this - that's why they keep pushing for it.

6. I don't see how it could even get off the ground in the first place.

It's not really "selling across state lines" if there are different insurance regulators, is it? It's simply the same company selling in different states. But we have that now, don't we?

3. They know it is unworkable and will help make the HCR fail

Either that or there is some way for them to make huge money this way. There really is no other logical explanation when it comes to Republicans.

4. Most states have FAILED to set up adequate (even minimal) health care consumer protection and oversight, which IMO is the main reason the federal government needs to step in and stand up for US citizens. If states had been doing this job all along, a lot of these problems would be taken care of but the states have mostly neglected (rather, screwn) the rights of the American people in favor of big corporations' own interests.

So this is where I do believe the government is correct in stepping in and taking over, where states have for the most part failed miserably to provide a basic human right as provided for in our Constitition: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

7. It's a scam. Without federal regulation, the states with the shittiest regulations...

... end up setting the standards for the other states. Kind of like US companies setting up call centers in India and sweatshops in China. It's essentially a free market freefall to the bottom... and of course the GOP love it. That's why they're so keen on the idea.

It seemed that when I worked for an auto insurance company based in Nashville, TN we had insured people in many states. I had to be licensed in multiple states to work those claims.  So why couldn't a health insurance company do the same? I know it has been 13 years since I worked in that industry, but I doubt it has changed that much.
