Kevin Smith was kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland to Burbank, Calif., Saturday because he was deemed too fat for the seats, he wrote in a barrage of angry Twitter posts.

The Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back director said he was booted by the captain after he was seated because he was considered a "safety risk."

"I know I'm fat, but was Captain Leysath really justified in throwing me off a flight for which I was already seated?" he wrote, maintaining, "I broke no regulation, offered no 'safety risk' (what, was I gonna roll on a fellow passenger?).

"Thank God I don't embarrass easily (bless you, Jersey Girl training)," he continued. "But I don't sulk off either ..." So he promised more tweets zinging the airline in the coming days for telling him "I'm too wide for the sky."

Smith said he refused a $100 voucher offered by Southwest and eventually got on another Southwest flight. He then tweeted a photo of himself on the plane with his cheeks puffed out, writing, "Look how fat I am on your plane! Quick! Throw me off!"

After landing, Smith, 39, wrote, "Don't worry: wall of the plane was opened & I was airlifted out while Richard Simmons supervised."

Southwest apologized to Smith on Twitter and also issued a statement on its blog, under the title, "Not So Silent Bob." The airline said Smith had purchased two tickets, as he has been known to do, but when Smith decided to fly earlier on standby, only one seat was available.

He would have had no problems had he stuck to the 2-seat solution

And I'm sure he could have afforded it, but he was flying standby on SWA.

He had 2 tickets and decided to change them for the stand-by on a different flight, an earlier one I guess. He should have stuck to his original plans.

I don't get it.  I've seen much fatter people than Smith (on Southwest flights, no less) fly with no problems.  Maybe one of the flight crew had to sit through 'Gigli' on their last flight.

I'd have more sypathy for Smith if he wasn't such a flaming liberal asshole.  Or if he had done anything decent after 'Chasing Amy'.  But it was a dumb move on Southwest's part.
