With other potential new entries including sex addiction and adult tantrums, there are concerns that the revised manual will trigger a boom-time for drug companies.

But the American Psychological Association, which compiles and updates the manual, says that the new disorders simply reflect changes in society and the way we live our lives.

People who whinge constantly may be suffering from negativistic personality disorder, while those prone adult tantrums can take comfort in the diagnosis of intermittent explosive disorder. ...

On the plus side, I think , they are revisiting the issue of diagnosing children as bi-polar, which might get some of the kids off pharmaceuticals and get their butts spanked again.

At a parent-teacher conference a few years ago, a mom told me her son was suffering from "Work Aversion Disorder."


Wait...There's a DISORDER for people who would rather not do difficult work???? Sign me up! I want a parking sticker and everything!!!!

Interesting treatment. That's how my lack of attention (now called ADD) was cured as a youth. Surprisingly effective and, unfortunately, underprescribed.
