So... I took a li'l pay for answering phones at a non-profit a few months back...

Yesterday my "check writer" recieved a letter mandating her to withhold 15% of my mere 5-10 hour a week job's earnings and apply to student loan.

I couldn't continue my education because they wouldn't release my transcripts from 2yr degree, now this. Yes, I let them default during my divorce.. but geesh.

Getting very sick of this dang survival game.

I'm sure there's more to this story than that.

2. Assume brother let them know

After I kicked him out of my house because I could no longer support him. That took me over a year to do because I kept thinking he'd realize I was feeding him and keeping a roof over his head.

No idea really. He has threatened that though.

6. If your weekly income is less then $217.50, no attachment is permitted by law

The Federal law on garnishment of wages has two parts, the well known 25% Cap on any attachment of any income (Exceptions exist for Child Support but NOT Student Loans) AND the less known but in this case the applicable statute limiting any attachment so that your weekly take home pay is NOT less then 30 times the hourly minimum wage. Minimum wage is now $7.25, 30 times $7.25 = $217.50, thus you MUST get from your employer $217.50 per week out of your weekly earnings (i.e. if you earn less the $217.50 you get ALL of your Income less Tax withheld).

Department of Labor Statement on Wage Attachment:

http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs30.pdf

The above paper clearly points out the 30 times Minimum wage rule applies to even these attachment for Student loans.

7. Thank you

I'm still trying to fix this.

I'm sure there's more to this story than that.

Yup, like someone started getting collection calls several years ago, which he ignored, and then got served with papers suing him on the debt, which he ignored, then got served with a default judgment on the debt, which he ignored, and didn't start paying any attention until his employer received a sheriff's execution garnishing his wages, which his employer, not being an effing stupid liberal, paid attention to.

:bird: Grrrr. :bird: Last month, December of 2009. I finally paid off my student loans that I first took out in 1989. No default. It wasn't fun. It wasn't easy. Some months I ate ramen noodles and popcorn to get by. Some months I had to rely on Mrs. Burr to help out. But I did it.

Therefore, I have zero sympathy for this shit bird. You let your loan default because of a divorce? It takes a long fuggin' time for the loan to go into default. If Mr. Worm was out of the house THEN YOU HAD MORE MONEY AVAILABLE TO PAY THE FUGGIN' LOAN BACK.

I guess I'm pissed because I was kind of a fug' up in my wayward and misspent youth but I still paid off my loan. And now this turd burgler is whining about having to pay back money that isn't hers.

I give up. These people just make me madder every day.  :banghead:

The only loan I have left is the Mortgage, and a couple of fairly low credit cards - Both vehicles, and all student loans and whatnot are paid.

And to any primitives reading this, I'm far from wealthy, and did not come from an affluent family.

I spent 8 years working my way through my degree, and so have no student loans to repay, and no sympathy for this educated idiot either.  I also have the satisfaction of putting my education to work regularly, as opposed to these twits who majored in post-modern impressionist basket weaving and spent more time stoned on the dorm room floor than studying the course material.

Naw.  You appear to earn thy daily bread from the sweat of thy brow, rather than from the barrel of Uncle Sugar's gun aimed at my wallet, so you get a pass.

Five will get you ten that Obama and the nationalizing of student loans is getting ready to reward the irresponsible by penalizing the responsible.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Yes. I know. Mrs. Burr runs the financial aid office at the local University. I'm sick about the whole thing.
