Blackberry Confusion
« on: January 14, 2010, 12:34:19 PM »
Mods, please feel free to move if there is a more appropriate forum for this....

I just was looking back for a text message from this morning, and it appears that every incoming text message I had is gone from my Blackberry.  I'm totally confused, I didn't change any settings at all.

I just googled the news for any blackberry-related outages, and didn't find any from today.  Any idea why this happened?

I have a treo...and mine don't disappear without hitting delete and getting asked if I'm sure.

They have to be stashed in there somewhere...

Blackberry Enterprise Server - connectivity for enerprise management, Exchange connectivity, security... ya know, all the things that MSFT does out of the box.  :-)  I guess I should ask if you work for a company that uses BES.

That's the way mine usually operates too, it asks if I really want to delete before it'll do it.

Oh, yes.  Acronyms throw me sometimes. :-)

My work account, gmail & hotmail all are routed to my Blackberry.  Email is coming through fine, but all incoming text messages are gone.

BES has the ability to own your phone.... could be a bad setting on the BES server, could be your phone, could be cute, furry little creatures that someone decided to feed after midnight...

This is a bit off topic...but I went to Verizon the other night with Runnin' Buddy and her son to see about reducing our phone bills.

I'm due for a $100 discount upgrade next month and am trying to reduce my bill....which is $225 a month.... :banghead: That's for a Treo, with internet access, unlimited minutes and messages, and an "air card" which is $62 of it.

Other half and son are on a "Friends and Family", and that bill is pretty reasonable since they just reworked it last week.

We also have 2 land lines and DSL with AT&T that is $250 a month.  :banghead: :banghead: Runnin Buddy and her husband have the same thing and are paying the same amount....so I know it's not just us.

Anyhow.....she is adding her son (23 and in college at MTSU) on to theirs as Friends and Family. It will reduce his bill about $50 a month. He has an air card (for his laptop) that they are going to keep on a separate bill.

There is no age limit or anything else, if you want to add someone onto Friends and Family, and everyone has a separate line....just minutes and messages can not be exceeded as a total of all lines. (My boys have a specified amount of minutes, but unlimited messages. One mostly talks, the other mostly messages). Each additional person is only $9.95 a month.

Then we got to the house phones...

We can cancel one land line, Verizon will take that number, and put it on a separate line on the F & F plan for $9.95/month!

Our other land line is fax/business, so we will keep it.

But we can get another air card, that will work on up to 5 different computers, for $62 a month.....which is $20 less than the DSL that is no where near as fast. The only catch is that you can only be "on line" on one computer at a time.

I can add my air card software to my PC and use it. The other half can use the new one, and son is usually on at random times so he can go on the other half's air card.

This would make our land line about $50/month max....and only add $62 to the other half's bill...unless he does the land line as another F & F line.

Still haven't figured out how mine cell is going to get reduced, except to take off internet access, which I will probably do as I can't get my emails on my Treo ...which is why I got it in the first place  :censored: I will know more next month when I go talk with the guy at Verizon.

I really liked this guy....we were there a half hour after closing while he explained all this to us....and helped to figure out how to save us money!

There are probably a whole bunch of you that already know all this stuff....but maybe there's a few, like me, who don't know.

Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

Now you know why I'm not happy!!

Our DSL is on our extra line. This house has 5 phone lines in it, from the previous owners....and you would not believe what we went through just to get 2 lines working and a DSL!!!

"Ma'am...we're here to make two lines work...not determine where all the lines go."  :censored: :censored: :censored:

At least the extra line is the one in both our offices. And I know our bedroom and kitchen line is the same. Beyond that, it gets very fuzzy.

On your $99....does that give you internet access? According to what the Verizon guy said the other night that I understood  :thatsright:....the "smart" phones are $30 more a month. He said I should switch to a blackberry, but I don't want one if I'm paying $30 for the priviledge of being able to show off my crackberry! I don't use most of the stuff on it. M and T both have envy's and like them. I do use my calculator and calender but not enough to justify $30/month!

I have unlimited messages and minutes...which I have to have because of work. Before I went on unlimited....I went over and the bill was into the atmosphere!!! :banghead:

should probably have a Mod split this into another thread. :)

$99.99 (plus $2o342309808234332.00 in taxes) for everything. Sprint. You can get it cheaper through T-Mobile now. Verison is a ripoff unless you live in an area where only they have coverage. At least 60% higher than what I currently have...

And aircards are okay, but not the best. You can Teather with Sprint... Can't with AT&T unless you pay more.. .lol

Verizon has the best coverage in my area...plus it works inside my house. Sprint and AT&T donot do very well.

I'm locked into the aircard for 2 years and I just got it in Oct.

I do get a discount from Verizon because of the company I work for. Can get one through Sprint too, but around here Sprint and Verizon are pretty competitive.
