Flax DUmmie needs help dressing himself.

Poll question: DU Stylists - a debate: New pair of jeans, or new pair of black or navy cords?

I got a gift certificate for the holidays and would love to buy a new pair of casual pants, but not so casual that I couldn't wear them out in the evenings if the occasion arose (I'm probably kidding myself - we live a very quiet lifestyle - but still, hope springs eternal).

So, a new pair of very dark blue, plain and simple (no embellishments, rips, feathered coloring, jazzy pockets) bootcut jeans?

Or a new pair of black (or super dark navy) bootcut cords? My concern about dark cords is lint pick-up. I have six cats, and am afraid I'd look like I was permanently orange-and-white furred.

Wish I could buy both, and maybe with sales I can, but if I can only get one pair, what do I choose? And why?
Poll result (15 votes)
Dark denim jeans    (11 votes, 73%)   Vote
Black cords    (4 votes, 27%)   Vote
Dark navy cords    (0 votes, 0%)   Vote

1. dark cords and 6 cats?

stock up on tape or a lint brush! I would go for the jeans.

2. yeah, I was going to go for the cords, and then a little bell went off

causing me to reconsider: Six cats, four of whom have light fur? Ummm... maybe I should rethink the whole idea

4. i'd go for jeans

not just because of the cat fur issue, but also because i'd be afraid that my pants would catch fire at the thighs while walking  {/quote]

Fire crotch would be a big problem with most DUers.

9. Thanks for the tip -- I want to find some that have some spandex / give

in them, just for fit and comfort.

I tend not to buy clothes unless I know the material is of good quality, OR it's just a quick filler piece that I don't intend to have last forever (like white t-shirts...) I haven't been able to buy anything for a while and the 'better quality' clothes I bought when I did have more cash have really served me well.

spandex / give is necessary for your fat ass, right?

10. Hmm, just checked Goodwill yesterday and unfortunately didn't

find anything I liked... a lot of the ladies' jeans / pants have shorter inseams and I need to have an inseam of at least 33 b/c I wear low heels a lot and I HATE any indication of highwater pants...

But I agree - I don't want the super-thin, easy-tear tissue weight denim, I want real denim with a hint of stretch...

WTF?  Your gift card is for the Goodwill Store?  What kind of cheap friends/relatives do you have?

The primitive should buy corduroy the color of the cats.

Corduroy's the best fabric ever made by man.

I didn't even know that Goodwill had gift cards.  And women's jeans come in different lengths to resolve the too short/high water jean issue.  Short jeans generally have about a 30 inch inseam, regular have a 32 inch inseam, and long jeans have a 34 inch inseam.  Most designer jeans default to the long size.

They must measure inseams differently on women's clothes. A man who needs a 34" inseam would be taller than 99.99% of women.

Cords is Corduroy? OK... My next question is, they still make those?

Are they plaid? dark brown? red? Which color should he go for that will make him look the most like a weirdo DUmmie?

This thread has taken on a weird gender-bending.  It the DUmmie a boy or a girl?  I started out thinking it was a boy, then I hit the spandex comment and went into a tailspin.  Guys' jeans with spandex in them?  I thought I was on Folsom street.

I dunno, unless she's very svelte, corderouy is not going to be her friend.  The constant swish swish when she walks just screams "I HAVE HUGE THIGHS!!!!!"

Same here. At that point, my advice was easy...go to Walmart and get several pairs of easy-fit Wranglers (might do that myself come to think of it.) Now that I know the OP's a lady, I'd better not advise. Being fashion-challenged and all that.

I'll be buying a pair of jeans and a pair of slacks soon too, I think. Probably at Wal-Mart.

Fruit of the Loom.

Lurk over there now and then. Used one of the chicken recipes over the weekend. Turned out great.

You wanted to talk about horses and posted it in the sports forum?  You should have posted it in the recipes forum.  :evillaugh:

I should probably join DU, post some threads there, and they'll get reviewed here.  :-)

I believe that the "Sport of Kings" doesn't get its' just desserts here, but seeing that I grew up four miles from the track that Secretariat had his only loss on, I have an interest in thoroughbred racing.  Not a big one, mind you, but an interest.

Well, mild interest is a start.   :-)

You obvious live in New York. Secretariat actually lost 5 times. 2x Belmont, 1 Saratoga, 2x Aqueduct...I'll guess you live near Aqu.

No, Saratoga.  Go to Opening Day there every year, even the monsoon years.  My father and my godmother work there during the season.

I'm jealous. I get up once a year. Have family in Scotia.
I love that track. Beautiful town.

Not too much into racing horses. If you want to climb up to the great divide though, I gots whats ya need! I'd be partial to Mammoth, T-Bone, Fred, Ponderay, Geisha, or Suzie to get ya there though. Mules have better feet and stamina than those pussie horses (Sparky, Cleeo, Rosy, Mama, Sugar, Midnight, Bits, Flash, Roy, and Suzuki) . They tend to wear out early and are more prone to refuse to get close to the cliff face.

Now that is something I'd truly love to do. Unfortunately, I don't see myself getting up into your neck of the woods in the near future.
