little primitive upset about smoking ban in strip clubs

Oh my.

Isn't this the Canadian primitive who alleged to be 15 years old and worked as a stripper, and then married some guy considerably older than herself?

Or am I getting the primitives confused?

One serious problem with the new smoking ban in NC.

First; I am not a smoker, and never have been in my entire life.

Second; my family came from tobacco farmers. We are native to NC as far as is possible (I am one eighth Cherokee - mother's side). But my parents both hated smoking and father quit when I was born. Mother was active in ACS. Had cancer three times; survived it twice. Grandfather died from it; smoker.

Third; I've been working in the bar business since I was 20. I am 36 now. Husband is a smoker; has been in the bar business since age 11 (yes, you read that right).

The problem I have is that this law outlaws smoking in gentleman's/exotic/strip clubs, as written. The reason I have this problem is that the law says that smoking is allowed in private bars/clubs.

HOWEVER; for alcohol-enforcement purposes; we ARE classified as a PRIVATE club - and they frequently fine us if we do NOT enforce this by making everyone that walks through the door wait three days for a membership.

BUT..GUESS how they got around this!?! The included the words NON-PROFIT in the wording of the law to apply to private bars/clubs.

That's some creative bullshit right there. They saw an opportunity to twist it a little further to adult businesses; and did so.

Look, I'm all for my coworkers and customers being healthier; as well as myself. But either we ARE a private club, or we're NOT.

We're already hurting in this economy, and husband just now started making a little more money. SURE, eventually people will get used to it and start coming around or adjusting; but in the meantime what are we supposed to do? Competition is already fierce. I suppose there will be bars that flout the law and risk the $200 (bar responsible)/$50 (person who lights up responsible) fine; but then we're breaking the law and that's one more reason to try and shut us down.

I don't really care whether you think this is a legitimate career choice or not - people do work in this business as a career; for their livelihood; and we are part of the economy. We're not going anywhere, and we deserve to have the right to make a living just as everyone else does.

I really hope someone challenges this 'private club' thing in court. This is a bit much; trying to have it both ways. We've got some heavy players in the biz here in NC..it's possible one of them; or a group of them would see a case for mounting a challenge in the courts.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to sell the boss on the idea of selling electronic cigarettes.

Nice little touch in the third paragraph, above; the obligatory primitive allegation to be part of a persecuted minority.

Anyway, this is a new campfire; no primitives have been at it yet.

Competition is already fierce......the "girls" are getting old and saggy.

She should try moving to Massachusetts - where they are working on making it illegal to smoke within 25 feet of the front door of a public place.

Which pretty much makes it illegal to smoke outdoors in cities, unless you are standing in the middle of a very wide road.

Now, I'm not a smoker, never have been, but the fear of second hand smoke has gone too far.

It is already illegal to smoke in any public restaurant or other enclosed public space here. Save for your home - However, there is already legislation creeping in on that, by attempting to make it illegal to smoke in apartment buildings.

Smoking is permitted in membership clubs, such as cigar bars, but the moment a non member walks in, it becomes illegal. - So, if you need to call a repairman for anything, you need to shut the business down.  This wont be a problem soon, as there is pending legislation to make it illegal to smoke in membership clubs as well.

Smoking is permitted outside as long as no smoke can make its way indoors, The outdoor spot must be open to the elements, so, if one puts up a smokers tent in the winter months, it becomes an enclosed space, and illegal to smoke in it.

The Primitive should be happy - Liberals hate tobacco. Liberals hate CO and CO2. Liberals love taxes and fines.

If its a club then its supposed to be non-profit isn't it?

Heck I don't personally approve of any of these activities except for profits and the right to start private clubs ...

She says she studied dance.   :whatever:
Claims she never stripped.

She needs to quit worrying about such stupid things and take care of her children.  She always cries about not having money, a car, paying high cellphone bills.

Earlier she wanted her husband to quit smoking. Go ahead, stick your nose in your husband's job.  Don't come crying at the DUmp when he gets let go.

Don't clothes always sort of come off during a pole dance? Otherwise, what's the point?

Sheesh. A cell phone is a luxury, not a necessity. If you're hurting for money lady dump the cell phone.

It seems the "second hand smoke" is just that, blowing smoke:

Quote
Over the 20-odd years of ETS studies, some 60 studies have reported results similar to this one, finding no statistically significant association between ETS and lung cancer. Of the 11 studies that have found a statistically significant association, none has reported an overall strong relative risk. This is particularly telling since epidemiological studies of real as opposed to phantom risks are usually weak at first but gain strength and clarity with time. The ETS studies have continued to be equivocal.

It's how they classify it here in NC.  In order to have a strip club, it has to be members only.  That way they have 3 days to determine there's no minors that can enter the club.  So it's a "private, for profit" club.

OTOH, there are private non-profit clubs which are not strip clubs at all, but rather clubs created by the well-to-do for the purpose of social interaction and networking.

So, no smoking in the strip clubs, and the rich clubs get to smoke all they want.  BTW, the Dems run this state, though they aren't quite the left wing kooks you find in Mass. and NY.

No, just the ones who left NY and MA to spread their little brand of socialism throughout the land.
