White House condemns 'suppression' in Iran
« on: December 27, 2009, 10:59:34 PM »

Iranian security forces on motorcycles surround opposition protesters during clashes in Tehran. The White House on Sunday strongly condemned "violent and unjust suppression" of civilians in Iran, following a fierce government crackdown on opposition protests.

"WASHINGTON (AFP) – The White House on Sunday strongly condemned "violent and unjust suppression" of civilians in Iran, following a fierce government crackdown on opposition protests.
The strongly-worded statement contrasted with careful initial responses by the White House following post-election protests in Iran in June and came as the nuclear showdown between Tehran and world powers reached a critical point.
"We strongly condemn the violent and unjust suppression of civilians in Iran seeking to exercise their universal rights," White House spokesman Mike Hammer said in a statement.
"Hope and history are on the side of those who peacefully seek their universal rights, and so is the United States.
"Governing through fear and violence is never just, and as President Obama said in Oslo -- it is telling when governments fear the aspirations of their own people more than the power of any other nation."' AFP on Yahoo

I am sure he actually means it this time.

We need a big prime time address where no punches are pulled.

He needs to use the phrase "evil empire" and not referring to us.

But he won't. He probably had some functionary issue a 2 line press release.

Seems ironic to me. A bit of "do as I say, not what I'm attempting to do."

I'm just a little curious, though; apparently the Idiot-in-Chief has not yet figured out that the Iranians simply don't give a fig what Mr. Open-Hand has to say to them.

I think it's sweet. It sounds like the Anti-Christ is giving pre-emptive absolution to the Americans protesting his fatuous policies here on our shores. In fact, it sounds like he's agreeing with the vast hordes of fed up Americans who daily protest his mendacious and treasonous agenda. After all, "it is telling when governments fear the aspirations of their own people more than the power of any other nation."

Stupid Iranian protesters.

They should have waited for Obama to finish his vacation.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Sure does, don't it?  Too bad the Idiot-in-Chief is too stupid to actually think through the consequences of what he says and does.

Seems ironic to me. A bit of "do as I say, not what I'm attempting to do."

Exactly.  Throw in the current administration thugs, Czars, and SEIU - you have governing through intimidation, bribery, and lies; which is just another approach in achieving "unjust civilian suppression".

Something a little like this, perhaps?:

Iran Steps Up Crackdown On Opposition

Opposition activists said Iranian security forces rounded up at least seven prominent activists on Monday, stepping up a crackdown on the country's pro-reform movement a day after eight people, including the nephew of the chief opposition leader, were killed in anti-government protests.

The bloodshed, some of the heaviest in months, drew an especially harsh condemnation from one opposition leader, who compared the government to the brutal regime that was ousted by the Islamic Revolution three decades ago.

Monday's developments were sure to deepen antagonism between the government and the reform movement, which has repeatedly shown resilience in the face of repeated crackdowns since June's disputed presidential election.

Mahdi Karroubi, an opposition leader who ran in the June election, posted a statement on an opposition Web site asking how the government could spill the blood of its people on the Shiite sacred day of Ashoura. He said even the former government of the hated shah respected the holy day.
