This brazilian custody case

All of you who thought that Bush's/Congresses involvement in the Gonzales cas was wrong (I did)...

Now Obama and congress are involved in this brazil custody case... threatening to hold up legislation unless Brazil gives the kid over...

Un-fawking-believable... Is there nothing that this Fed gov'nt won't attempt?

Ummm, the Elian Gonzales incident occured on Comrade Billy Jeff's watch, not President Bush's.

The government should be involved in this case.

The mother took the boy, who was born here and is an American citizen from his home here in the states, to Brazil....then divorced the American father.

The mother died a couple of years ago.....and the Brazilian step-father won't give the kid back to his natural father....who has been trying to get the kid back for years.

Totally different from Emilio Gonzales whose mother basically escaped from Cuba with him. He is a Cuban citizen and by international law had to be given back to his Cuban father.

Just as by international law....this little boy should be given back to his American father.

A Brazilian judge had ruled the little boy was to be given back....and a higher court judge overturned.

EDIT: Deb - the manner of which they are getting involved is completely wrong, IMHO. I can see the State Department, but senators and the President? Congress blackmailng the country? I just don't know how that makes sense. Just me.

It would be logical to contact his Congress critters and the State Dept.....I wasn't aware that Obama was involved.

I'd say having congress involved is worse than Obama. They are literally blackmailing Brazil, to the tune of BILLIONS... That's not cool. State Department, yes, legislation blackmail? no...

I heard that too.

Basically, because he was essentially kidnapped....according to International Law set up in LeHague....he had to be returned to his father.

5 years is what I heard.  I'm glad that the father is finally getting his son back, but I wonder how much his son really remembers him :-(

The father has been down there quite a bit since the mother died, and I know he has been able to see him, but I'm not sure how much.

It was on Fox just a little bit ago....the stepfather's family still hasn't released him.  :(
