Just saw Avatar (movie) (spoiler alert)
« on: December 20, 2009, 09:37:41 PM »
Just finished Christmas shopping, dinner with an ol' pal, saw a movie.

If you have seen any reviews of the movie Avatar to this point (as I had) the reviews were pretty spot on. Avatar IS Dances with Wolves in space. Weak story told a hundred times. The 3D and "special effects" were really good but the plot was really tired. I'm keeping the 3D glasses cuz I look really cool in them, however unless this is your first movie ever, you have seen it before. Trust me.

I'm kind of a sucker for billion dollar Sci-Fi stuff and from that aspect the flick was swell. Otherwise it was the usual Hollywood pap. The ending was really sad (spoiler coming) as the capitalist were truned away from a very lucrative mining opportunity by the 10 foot tall indigenous blue hippy monsters. I was perhaps alone in this opinion among my fellow movie goers. The love story sub plot seemed to work out and one tends to have to be happy with that... politics aside. (the 10 foot tall blue hippy monsters were 90% naked and super hot throughout the whole movie. (one thing worth cheering for anywho)

All in all... a swell day off was had by yours truly: finished shopping, watched some football, nice dinner, saw a OK movie. For what it's worth, if you planned to see Avatar in the theatre for the whole 3D experience and all that, I'd say don't let my review stop you. All in all it was worth the dough. As much or more so than any other recent Hollywood production anyway. I'd give the whole experience a solid Obama grade of B+.  :-)

"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

Ha ha ha ha... that looks pretty close.

Looks like I'll be waiting for the $1 rental from Redbox.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I had already read a synopsis and pretty much figured out it would be a preachy POS.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

Capitalist pigs invade planet to rape it of it's resources, while the "beautiful , friendly , Natives" are slaughtered.  Doesn't sound leftist to me. :sarcasm:
