My advice to all teenagers: NEVER join the military

It was this way under Bush, and its this way under Obama

Do NOT join the military, for the minute you sign the paper, you're a dead man walking. If one of the three wars doesn't kill you, or dismember you - the experience of watching your friends will.

What good does it do? NONE WHATSOEVER. Better to go to a technical college, rack up debt and then get a job. The military way is always the least effective - and I've seen this time and time again in the tech world.

Oh, and if you're in you don't want to get that dreaded "Dishonorable Discharge" - or do you? I've known many in my field who had "Dishonorable Discharges" and went on to very sucessful careers. Most employers don't give a flying whim what or why, they just want to know "can you do x?"

5. No AF, they are "loaning" noobs to the ground patrols. NO MILITARY SERVICE. I'm a vet.

I can tell you, there aren't many that I served with that would honor a "Stop Gap". For sure I wouldn't. FU, Throw me in jail.

I was supposed to be guaranteed health care and a funeral and both of those have been removed.

Screw them.

Live the American dream, take all the grants and loans you can get, go to school and learn a little about tax law.

3. I have an Other Than Honorable discharge.

You can only get a Dishonorable if you are convicted by a Court Martial. With my OTH I have been able to purchase my home with a VA loan and I even have a DoD Secret Clearance for my DoD job.

That being said, I wouldn't recommend anyone joining the military either. I joined during a period of relative peace, but right now joining is not a good idea.

They make the janitors have clearances?

I used the wrong word - I meant "Other than Honorable"

And as for the draft, I fully encourage draft resistance

If some idiot congressman introduces the draft, expect me to fight them and the bill 100%

Expect me to get my kids off to wherever is safe

Expect me to fully resist, help burn draft cards, barricade draft boards, etc...

A draft is a serious infringement on our liberties, and I will not tolerate that

Hmm....which side was it that was considering reinstating the draft?

13. I think turning to crime would be a better path than the military

Robing banks or cars would be a better career choice IMO

I'd like to kick all of their disrespectful asses. This was some of the shit I found while I was recruiting. Ya know, until 0bamacare came about, (and thank God it hasn't passed!!), I have never once worried about my benefits. The bigger problem I've found is that vets aren't given any credibility for what they've learned & done in the military. This is mainly caused by people of the DU ilk and civilians that are ignorant about how the military works and what all the military does.

I just finished 8 years not 14 months ago. Yep my time in the military did not do anything for me. With all this money that the GI bill is giving me to go to school, the preferential hiring for gov and some civilian sector jobs and that useless medical experience that helped me land a good job. No i don't see why anyone would want to join.

So DUmmys if your spawn turned out anything like you please tell them not to join. We don't want that kind in the military.

The OP needs a crotch punch.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I have a 17 year old that has been going to the AF recruiter for a month or 2 now.  He is going to take the ASVAB in Jan, go for a physical in June, join delayed enlistment, and hopefully ship (my hope, his room is a pit) 1 day after graduation.  My only disappointment is that he is joining the AF.  F'n zoomies.  Thought I raised him right.
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

What he SHOULD do is take the ASVAB, take the physical and THEN talk to the classifier and be ready to join in Jan. (The USAF doesn't take non HS Grads, so he can't leave unless he graduates) He will have a better choice at job selection in Jan rather than waiting until Jun in hopes he can get something  right away. The reason WHY is because the physical is very in depth and there could be some disqualifying factor or a physical problem that might hamper his job selection. If you care to talk with me, PM me and I'll PM my ph #. You can ask Sparky to verify. Most of the services are similar in this matter/ issue.

Problem is, Thor, that most of the services won't do ASVAB/med and then DEP in at a later date.  It's all one big ball.  Are you saying they won't DEP in 11S for Air Force, only 12L (workforce)?

But you are correct--what's available is better in the winter months--SOMETIMES, based on ship date.  Hate to tell you, but if he's going into a small field, you may not get him to ship right after graduation.

Fortunately, no one who has ever considered joining and ultimately decided to do so would think twice about their retarded advice.

"You might go to war and you could conceivably die!"

"Well no shit Sherlock, I'm joining the military."

The OP is predicated on denying men's right to do as they please with their lives.

Taverner....he's popped up before, i.e. in a punch bowl.  He is a POS, and has been on any thread he's been involved in.  I'm surprised he didn't make the ballot.  He really is devoid of morality and ethics, I can't imagine meeting someone like him in person.  Better to be criminal than a soldier, indeed.

Words fail me....

I cannot believe that I gave 22 of the best years of my life, put my family through all that goes with an active duty career, to have protected the rights and liberties of trash like this.

When the time comes, DUmbasses, (and believe me, it will) and you are finally held accountable for your words and deeds by the decent people of this country, there will be no mercy.

DUmmies in general seem to hate the military and police.  What do those two things have in common?  A willingness and a belief in putting your life on the line for the welfare of others?  DUmmies talk a good game of helping others, but when it comes to any personal sacrifice, forget it.

Ever wonder what might happen if we split the country in two - along the might Miss, perhaps - and threw all the conservatives on the Western portion, all the libs on the easter, and treated them as two separate countries?

I'd kind of like to see that, sometimes.

What a :censored:
My husband finished up 30 years in the Army a few years ago.  Like many, the best way to get anywhere in life was for him to join the military at age 18 and serve his country.  Despite two wars, he's still here with me.
Had I not also joined the Army, I would have missed out on meeting the love of my life, not to mention nine years living in Germany and other great and not so great places.
Words cannot express the depth of my contempt for those who denigrate the sacrifices of our brave men and women in uniform, military, police, firemen, etc. :hammer:
