Ege BamyasiDecember 2, 2009I do try to be honest and thorough when I post. It should be clear to anybody that while I may be intelligent and bookish, I'm still working on a lot of emotional issues along with the health and weight ones. I'm really going to try and make a concerted effort to not carry on so much about the petty crap I'm dealing with, but sometimes it's like a form of "death by 1,000 cuts" as it were. I just have to keep my eyes on the prize and my hope alive for a time when the hits won't just keep coming. The transition into a Mary's Mini form of MWL has begun in earnest. Last night's dinner was potato wedges with dijon mustard, plus lesser amounts of ketchup and BBQ sauce to use as dip when the mustard got to be too much. Today thus far has been a big salad with the 3-2-1 dressing and some grapes. There are some leftover sweet potatoes still to be eaten, and though they do contain some brown sugar to make them more like candied yams, it's not a horrible amount since one small bag of brown sugar was distributed into about 5 lbs. of boiled sweet potatoes. They are also infused with some allspice, which makes them very yummy. And that about wraps up our belated Thanksgiving leftovers. My horrid cough is finally showing some limited signs of abating. I was to the point where, for the last few days, I couldn't get out a full sentence to Jeanette or our roommate without trying to hoark up a lung. And moving around even a little, like going to the bathroom? Ugh! I had to be very careful because the intensity of the cough would sometimes cause dizziness. Today I was doing pretty well until I decided to take advantage of the situation and start moving around the apartment some. I resurrected the cough, but it's not quite as intense now and I'm hoping that by the middle of next week it will be gone. Not bad for someone who was living with almost perpetual bronchitis, pneumonia or pleurisy for a good chunk of his life a number of years ago. In another development, I am now actively posting in Letha's new forums. Don't get me wrong, I still love it here -- but the software being used in the new forum allows for a lot of options which aren't available here. Also, there is a decidedly more liberal political bent among the regular members thus far, which goes a long way towards making me feel more comfortable and not having to walk on eggshells every time I click a post in the Lounge here. I would never promote a mass exodus away from here, and I'm eternally grateful that Dr. McD. has seen fit to provide this forum for us. But, I encourage you to discover Letha's boards for yourself if you haven't yet, and maybe spend some time there.
Ege BamyasiNOMINEE FOR TOP PRIMITIVE OF 2009December 3, 2009Today is one of my "need sleep desperately, but can't" days again. I've been awake and just kind of listening to music and reading things online. Not going to post much because my head is way too fuzzy to get into anything deep while still maintaining a semblance of coherence. I had a bottle of valerian root, which does seem to help me, but I was using a little more than the recommended dose most nights because of my body weight -- 6 to 8 capsules taken in two doses an hour apart, rather than 3 to 5 in a single dose. They really helped and I didn't seem to have any side effects. I think I'll order a larger bottle of that from thevitaminshoppe.com, along with ginger and maybe even dandelion root extract, for circulation and as a natural diuretic which doesn't leech potassium from the body. I'll be out of medications soon, so I must start getting weight off again and I have to be ready with proven natural remedies to help me through. Had sweet potatoes today and will have a salad, and possibly some fat free refried beans with onions, tomato and salsa in corn tortillas if I'm still hungry when Jeanette gets home in another couple hours. Maybe, if I'm lucky, I'll actually nod off for a while before then. I played some PlayStation earlier and couldn't even focus on what the heck I was doing, and still got a decent score in the game I was playing. Letha has her turtle energy. Some days I have my zombie energy.
