:rotf:...everything I do would piss them off. ....and once I got on a roll, I'm sure I could dream up a few more..... :rotf:

Every once in a while, I break out my 12 gauge and various handguns and expend a fair amount of ammo, right on my property.

Doya think the HOA might have a problem with that if I did the same in their lofty li'l neighborhood?   :whistling:

You'd love my nieghbor at the old home place....the old houses are about 300' apart. He'll cut loose in the backyard with some fully automatic fire every once in a while. I let him do as he pleases and he lets me do as I please, no problem.

In defense of HOA's.....they do serve a purpose not only in helping to maintain property values within the subdivision but also to help fight off anyone who threatens those property values.

In this case....the HOA's actions are stupid.....and they picked the wrooonnnnnng person to get stupid with and picked a very stupid issue.

The HOA president never should have gone after Col Barfoot.

However, I kind of understand why he/she did it, because it sets a precedent for someone to put in a flag pole and fly whatever they want - appropriate or not. But if there was no mention in the covenants and restrictions of flagpoles....they can't change it after the fact without a specific percentage of the HOA voting to change it. Even if they did that....they should have just made restrictions on what can be flown from flagpole, not that nothing could be flown.

Legally, a person buying a home in an HOA, is to be presented with a copy of the HOA rules, restrictions and covenants PRIOR to purchase, for review. This doesn't always happen...but that's part of a buyer's agent's job to see that their client has a copy.

Years ago when we were looking for a condo instead of a house....we changed our mind on buying in a particular subdivision because of the HOA rules regarding landscaping. The HOA required that if any plantings surrounding the condo died....it was to be replaced with an identical plant - not only type but size!! Yeah right...I'm going to replace a dead fully grown tree with a live fully grown tree....what am I paying exorbitant fees for?
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

Kidding............when I surveyed and we pulled deeds and maps.....we also got copis of the covenants.........holy shit the things I read. Can't have antennea, can't have a boat, can't raise th hood and jack the car up, can jack the car up but jack stands can't be prest for more than six hours.....on and on and on.

My feelings if someone flies something inappropriate, then let the neighbors handle it, if they got a problem with the American flag.......shoot em

I read a book several years ago about an evil HOA, that was controlled by something malevolent living under the land it was built on.

I will never and I do mean NEVER own a home in an area that has an HOA.

I'll be damned if I let somebody tell me what I can do with my own property.

That's what I always said...but any of the nicer homes in south florida are in HOA developments with gated entrances.  So, I live in an HOA community...so far, I haven't run into any issues...and I fly my flag on my front porch.  They really aren't ALL bad.....but some certainly are.

There was an X Files on that too.

I'm not evil..... :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:

I live in a gated subdivision, with extensive covenants and restrictions. However, minimum lot size is 1 acre with the largest almost 9 acres. Only the ones that are right up to the road and totally visible are really scrutinized. We're on 3.2 acres, the house can't be seen from the street... and no one's going to drive down our drive and scrutinize our house....at least no one has in the 6 years we've lived there....
