Oh my.

A winter wonderland for Ms. Ed, the unappellated eohippus:

It is snowing here in East Texas this morning

Still unsure what it is going to do to the voting process today...but for now, it is quite beautiful (I must say me traipsing around at 3 am in my nightgown and fur boots was NOT beautiful)...but here is what it looks like right now.

1. East Texas...

I had no idea....

Well it's a Late Night Movie,
Lon Chaney and me
and we've gone thru this before
Sunday Paper laying wasted on the floor

Well, here comes ol' three in the morning
Laying' down the same old lines
Seems to me the company he keeps
Is near 'bout the same as mine

It looks like maybe I'm losin' myself
Again tonight
In between what's real
And what just rhymes

And old gray faces all trade places
In the Lost and Found
Yeah, and telephone calls
Are like old postcards with sound

And it's an East Texas Moon
Shinin' down on rooftops
Yeah, and beer joints and backyards
Where them dogs all bark and fight

East Texas Moon
Almost Louisiana
Ah, but it's just
Enough light
To stay between the lines

Ohhh,
Tyler
Longview
San Augustine
Evadale
Kountze
Beaumont
Port Arthur
Sour Lake

All of those places that made my blood run gritty with that red dirt.

Please, sing me back home.

Tom

2. sing it Tom

From this valley they say you are going
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened our pathways awhile

Come and sit by my side, if you love me
Do not hasten to bid me adieu
Just remember the Red River Valley
And the cowboy who loved you so true

I've been thinking a long time, my darling
Of the sweet words you never would say
Now, alas, must my fond hopes all vanish
For they say you are gong away

Do you think of the valley you're leaving
O how lonely and how dreary it will be
And do you think of the kind hearts you're breaking
And the pain you are causing to me

They will bury me where you have wandered
Near the hills where the daffodils grow
When you're gone from the Red River Valley
For I can't live without you I know

4. As a child,...I would often sing Red River Valley with my Mother.

And I would always get weepy, just thinking about that picture.

Still do, all these years later.

5. not often enough

Generally once a year...usually in December. Although in 2003 it was on Valentine's Day and one year it was actually AFTER Spring Break.

7. Last year we had snow the day before Easter.

First week of April, 2007.

And it stayed on the ground until the next day. It was about two inches' worth.

This was in the middle of East Texas, about halfway between Houston and Dallas.

8. That is actually one of my most favorite areas

I worked at the hospital there as an agency nurse. Was a very nice experience.

Stayed at that little motel down from the Walmart...

Ahh...the memories...

13. Snowing in Missouri.

Miserable stuff. They're saying maybe 4"-6" with drifts about a foot and more snow later in the week.

14. Meanwhile, it's expected to be about 50 degrees and rainy here in NY, washing away our snow from last week.

This morning, 2 of my kitties were at my kitchen window watching the first wave of robin redbreasts!

Geezuz.

"Kitties."

I don't think it is in REAL East Texas.  I'm in East Texas and we don't get snow once a year.  We get snow on an average of once every TEN years .... it is a real event.

From some of the other descriptions I have read they don't know where the dividing lines in Texas lie.

Well, the unappellated eohippus is a notorious liar.

Other times, Ms. Ed's talked about living in northern Texas, around Dallas but north, somewhere between Dallas and Amarillo.  The nonmonickered equine last autumn talked about hauling in a whole lot of firewood for the winter, tons of firewood.

After watching the latest bonfire by the burdened primitive, I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that primitives lie, and lie about the most harmless innocuous things.

I believe you are 100% correct Frank.  Take THIS post for example from the same thread;

9. The other one....

is mine.

And I truly am from East Texas.

I'll bet that those are some surprised daffodils, come morning.

Now, unless you are a notorious liar you wouldn't need to put that little tidbit in your sentence.

If she is in East Texas she must be one hell of a long way up north of me.  Granted, I'm in deep East Texas but even Texarkana doesn't get much snow.  North of Dallas is considered the plains.  There are either 5 or 7 regions in Texas depending on with whom you speak.

You know, Texacon, sir, it's just really stupid.

One can understand--franksolich most of all--the need for protecting oneself on the internet by distorting or covering up the truth, although my own technique is simply to not say anything at all; to omit something, rather than lying about it.

But the primitives lie about the stupidest little trivial things.

If the unappellated eohippus has ever commented she wears size 13 shoes, she's probably lied; she perhaps wears size 16 shoes.

If the burdened primitive has ever commented about going to the grocery store, he's probably lied; he perhaps went to the hardware store instead.

Just really stupid little things not worth lying about.

But lying seems so much a part of the primitive nature, they can't help themselves.

The deal with liars, though, is that they're inevitably their biggest victim.

Most of the lying seems to be of the 'One upmanship' variety.  One posts that it is *gasp* snowing in the south which immediately brings in one who says it is 150 degrees in the shade in Nova Scotia.

One brags of being in CA and doing wonderful things but when another has something to say about the great state of Texas ... "well, ma'am, I just so happen to be from there", is the response.  Can't get one by these folks ... no siree!   :loser:

All I got at my east Texas plains home was a few flurries around 11 pm last night.  It wasn't even below freezing.

I was worried about my budding trees and my new roses, but they will be fine.  It is beautiful today, and getting warmer (48 now).

Funny, we were all wearing shorts and t-shirts last Saturday.

When will TomInTib claim he wrote "Red River Valley" ?   :-)

Boy, that ain't no lie!  Saturday was beautiful!  My Bradford Pears are almost in full bloom.  Give them a couple more days and they'll be stinking the place up.

I got a bit of snow at my house last night.  A little was still left on the grass and on my car when I left for work this morning.

Last Saturday was great, I was outside all afternoon working the yard.  I wish I wasn't working today, it's so nice, I could really tackle some of those weeds.

TominTib is such a liar, I don't believe anything that he posts.  He says he's from Houston then Beaumont then where ever.  Oh and Beaumont, Pt Arthur & Houston aren't East Texas at all, they're SE Texas idiot.
