It's dark and raining in the Sandhills of Nebraska, but the temperatures are mellow; right now, it's 53 degrees.

The cats all finally checked in during the night; all here.

The automobile goes to the mechanic in town today for its "winterizing," so I'm stranded out here in the wilds until circa suppertime, when the neighbor drops by to pick me up to go to town to retrieve it.

I made a lot of money this past week.

Always good to have a positive cash flow.

Cloudy and cool here north of the Mohawk, and west of the Hudson.  The Heiress woke up around 3:50 AM or so and wanted a bottle of milk.  The only two times during the day that she gets milk in a bottle are the first thing in the morning and just before she ostensibly goes to bed.  Lately, though, it's been tough to get her to bed.  After getting the morning bottle this morn, my lovely wife brought The Heiress into our bedroom and our bed.  Thing is, when TH comes into our bed, it's some sort of playtime for her.  She kicked Daddy a lot, in the back.  (I wasn't about to turn over and let her have a shot at my chest or lower.)  She almost settled down, when it was time to get up.  Now, all three of us are dressed and ready to go.  I finally got my CE stuff for real estate appraisal ready to send to the NYS controlling authority, so that'll go out today, certified mail. 

There's challenges out there to be had today.  I may not be ready for all of them, but bring 'em on.

I get to spend the entire day with hospital administrators....explaining that their building is too small for what they want to do with it.  5lbs of sh*t in a 3lb bag, etc.  Eh, it pays the bills.  They fired the local guys and called in the "big guns" (my company) to do the design work.   :II:
I'll fly home late tonight and have to be back at work early Friday.

Cool and cloudy, but not terribly cold.  Another day of the Seabrook Death March.  No word on when we're coming off shift yet.

Got an estimate for a yard care company to do my yard, front and back.  Will see if I can fax the letter to them this morning.  A bit more than I had anticipated, but not horribly so, and with as little time off as I have, they're certain to do a better job than me trying to rush through and do it.

80 and sticky already, headed for 90 today.  My son and his family just relocated here, so I'm spending the day showing them where everything is..or isn't.   :-)

60 and windy today. Yesterday was a gorgeous sunny 76 so I'm hoping for a  repeat. On the upside, the turning leaves are pretty.

Turning?  Hell, most of mine are gone.  They should all be on the ground within a week or two.  And on a good note, I managed to get the quote signed and faxed back to the landscapers.  One issue I won't be dealing with, and I've got an appointment at the lawyer's for Monday morning.  Again, one more issue I won't be dealing with soon enough.

70 something right now, but we have storms coming in.  I am happy they are coming in AFTER I got to work, and should blow through BEFORE I leave work.  With the storms, we are looking to drop temperature significantly, probably around the mid-50's.  First day of the week I have not had to visit the vet.  Hopefully I can continue this trend, as boss is not sympathetic to dog owners, and believes all dogs must die.  (direct quote)  My Mom suggested it may be on account of her being Asian.   :o

Mid-40's now, 70 expected this afternoon. 

Work has been very light lately, so I talked to my boss yesterday and asked if there was anything she needed help with.  She gave me a bunch of paperwork to file away.  Then, what do you know 5 cases (all expedited) hit my desk within the last hour I was there.  I'll be busy today  :-)  Still no overtime being approved, but I've had my best billing month in a while, so that feels good.

Ah hell. Cooler here and cloudy.  Maybe some rain later.

Life sucks.

My friend Kim's little girl Hannah went from feeling punk with the flu for a couple of days to having H1N1 complicated by a corresponding BAD case of bacterial pneumonia.  She is in ICU in Madison after being transferred from the regional hospital yesterday.  They stuck in chest tubes this morning to try to drain the fluid off her lungs and I think they have her in a medically induced coma to try to stabilize her. 6(?) years old. 6 or 7 this year.

They were wearing full suits and respirators when they had her at the regional and they are double masked in Madison. Kimba has to scrub down and mask every time she leaves the room and no wandering the hospital.

My wife says the way that this is starting to shake out is that 80% of the people that get it shake it off within 48 hours. (Like her other little girl Emma who is at home with the same flu but recovering Kay.) Roughly 20% of the people who get it are dying or are coming very near death.  And the damn thing is JUST starting to make the rounds as it were. This is going to be really bad before it burns itself out.  The 1919 Spanish Influenza took about 5 years to peak and subside.

The problem is that the damn antigens shifting and drifting. Whenever two strains of H1N1 meet inside a host they combine to form a new subtype having a mixture of the surface antigens of the two original strains. And a whole new sub-strain goes out to play meeting other sub-strains and combining to make new strains and ad infinitum. Meanwhile even as they are shifting random mutations cause the antigens to drift from the original. Thats why if you are going to get H1N1 it's better to get it early in the damn outbreak so that when later strains come back around that are tougher and drug resistant you have some acquired immunities from them.

Right now there is practically nobody with natural immunities to it and it is shifting and drifting like mad since it started spreading. And there is simply not enough capacity to make large amounts of killed virus vaccines and the live virus vaccine can't be used for "At Risk" people because by it's very nature it carries the bug in a weak form and the resulting mild infection can develop into a full blown case rather than immunity.

I am seriously worried about this folks.  As is my wife and as are the people she knows at all levels of the pharmaceutical industry and the people we know that work in the CDC and at Fort Dietrich and Health Services Command. This thing is not even close to being over. And it is NOT being overhyped. This is just the begining of the begining.

Chaired the Safety Committee meeting this morning. Outta there in 15 minutes, which must've been a new world record.

Sent out the gig sheet for a Christmas gig that Harmonium Brass (my new quintet) hopes to play on Dec. 4.

I may take this afternoon off. Rehearsal tonight - 3 hours of counting rests, interrupted by an occasional fortissimo.

It's 50-something and the fog is about burned off to beautiful sunshine!!! Supposed to hit the upper 60's.

We weren't supposed to have rain until tomorrow night, but there's a huge glob of it on the map headed this way from the SW....going to hit Chris and Ree before me.

Been doing reports this morning, have to help M with some of his stuff, and that damn laundry is still lurking in the laundry room.... :banghead:

Mid 60s here in Denton. Had a pretty good shower come through about 10 minutes ago. Just sitting here at work stuffing transcripts in envelopes and waiting for my afternoon class to start at 1300. Putting my spring class schedule together and trying figure out where I can fit a physics class in there. Lent my uniform to the library here on campus for November. They're doing a month long tribute to veterans.

What an exciting life I lead.

I really wish that it would quit raining for a couple of weeks. Now that it's cooler, I have some outside work to get done, but the damned rain, every couple of days or more is keeping me from it.

ASDF sorry to hear about the little one. :( 
Mine got the pig bug about 1 1/2 weeks ago and it tried to go pneumonia. She's fine now, but probably did well because shes 12.
I think I had it this last Jan which kept me from getting it. I had some very slight symptoms this past weekend and part of the week, but nothing more.
Clear and sunny here, highs in the upper 60's low 70's. Glorious day.
