I am building up to making a point.

I suppose it is the law for preventative reasons.  Arresting someone after he/she actually commits the assassination may build a stronger case against them but you still have a dead president.

To me, there is a big distinction between making a serious threat and someone just making an off the cuff comment in anger or frustration.

Should it be investigated to find out if the threat is serious?  You bet.

But should it be a federal crime to make an off the cuff comment in the presence of other?

Not so much IMO.

No such thing as off the record.

Funny how things work up here.  Local news said a man who slapped another man and called him a sissy was facing a hate crime.  Why, the person who was slapped claims to be Gay, but I know of at least 2 different woman who dated him and said he was a stud.

This is what we are becoming, if I get mad at some old man who bangs his car door into mine and chips the paint, I can be arrested for the hate crime of calling him a " Bald headed bastard"-----

One has to be so very careful with words today, say I and another woman speak of wanting to punch the Boss in the nose, someone over hears---have we  entered some kind of conspiracy to attack him ?

It is not good for any society to have to look over their sholder when speaking to another.

You are right about the words and it has gotten totally out of hand.

Here in Austin, Texas, last week a DJ was discussing the fact that the ground at Zilker Park had so much water standing on it after the Austin City Limits Festival and the city was concerned about the best way to clean up the park.  One of the DJ's said a couple of  times that they just needed to "go down to Home Depot and pick up a bunch of wet-vacs" to suck up the water.  Since the City of Austin - the liberal mecca of Texas - REQUIRES Home Depot to provide a pick-up spot for "workers" (translation:  illegals) to get work, people started calling in and said the statement was "racist" because it "sounded so much like 'wet-back'".

They suspended the guy without pay for two weeks.

Never had much use for Austin in my life..... that shit hole can wither away and die for all I'm concerned.

More proof that liberals are the racist ones, and can hear racism where it doesn't exist.  We all remember the flap over the word "niggardly".   Granted that using "wet vac" term may have been an attempt at a pun.

How would those others know if the comment is off the cuff or a real threat?

Wait just one minute here, are you saying the State can require you to break the law by knowingly hire illegals ?  What happens when ICE raids the place.?

How are they paid, in cash ?

Does Home Depot have a quota as in for every American picked up there has to be two criminals also hired.?

I do know that Home Depot is one the the most difficult places to get a credit card. They track back credit history up to 10 years in some cases. So now they are forced by city law to give access to inventory to just anyone.?

When will the black citizens of California force the Governor to change his last name.?

Will Cracker Barrel have to change their name, I as a white find that offensive.  I also find the Sour Kraut offensive and French Kiss obscene.

Home improvement must now find a new way to describe how to Chink up a window with putty, and when one must use emergency measures to tape up a muffler, then one can only say they Rigged it, no words that start with a N. or J.

Jimmy Darentie who had had a large nose cannot be thought of as the man with the big   Honker or Honkey--   recycle items that are clear no longer called White Trash.

Got to get rid of the word Poor, it is now disadvantaged. A drunken bum is now suffering from a medical disease.  Anyone who cannot controll their temper and lashes out at others for not getting their way are now victims of society.

Crazy world out there, and here I thought Austin was a nice place to live.

Vesta--you live in an area where the only illegals are a couple of Canadians whose passports have accidentally expired.  One would have to go to Boston to see any significant numbers of illegals.

But even that pales in comparison to the number of illegals in the border states and large urban areas like Denver, Chicago, New York, and Miami.  Even large agricultural areas like the Carolinas have significant numbers of illegals working the fields and packing plants.

ICE doesn't care.  You could tell them that there are 500,000 of them marching through downtown Los Angeles, (and not coincidentally, that HAS happened) and they'll just shrug their shoulders.  Their mentality is one of once the illegal gets past the border, it's not their problem anymore.  No immigration raids to speak of, no holding employers accountable, nothing of the sort.

Schools in California are not allowed to even ask an enrolling student's immigrant status.  Cops cannot ascertain whether or not someone they have contact with is there legally (Google Special Order 40.)

RIOTS are occuring in the inner city schools in CA because of the blacks losing their power to Latinos.  Entire student bodies have started brawls at lunchtimes or off-campus.  Of course, you hear nothing of this outside local media, and even then precious little at that.

The LA Economic Development Council did a study about 7-8 years ago which showed nearly 30 percent of the LA County workforce was paid in cash--no taxes deducted, no workmans comp or unemployment insurance taken out.  Guess what group the majority of those workers fell into?  Oh, and guess who pays for those who do not?  California has one of the most expensive workman's comp programs in the nation--and it's bankrupt.

You won't get any argument from me.  I actually do not live IN Austin but in a small town 45 miles southwest of Austin.

Austin is a sanctuary city and they bend over backwards to accommodate illegals.  My son was an Austin cop before he became a SS Agent and he was not even allowed to ASK if a person he stopped was illegal or not.

It is my understanding.....and admittedly I'm not an expert on Austin, thank goodness.....but before Home Depot (and other large building supply companies) can get their city building permit they are to set aside a certain amount of "free space".  Also the city itself actually SUBSIDIZES with tax dollars a place with "workers" can congregate in order for contractors to hire them and they were talking about opening a second such site.

Houston is also a sanctuary city and they have had three police officers killed in the line of duty by illegals in the past couple of years.   One of the killers had been arrested by Houston police three times prior to the  traffic stop that resulted in the killing of the officer.  If he had been deported that officer would be alive today.

Did I not say they should be investigated?  Yes I did.

My question was should it be a federal crime?

You want the individual who heard the comment to investigate it first before reporting?

It was reported to be a threat against the President.  What other type of crime would it be?

I live in DFW.  My burb has a DAY LABORER FACILITY, which looks like a rest stop for the day laborers to wait.  Conveniently across the street from a Turimex bus depot.  Several cities around here have built the same, with the argument that they got tired of dealing with complaints from store owners regarding loitering on their property.
