The Olympic Park bombing fiasco didn't help matters either.  Probably soured the IOC on Chicago a little bit as well.

Oh yeah. I remember all the restaurants in Buckhead were all full of themselves, setting
ridiculous reservation rules and penalties if you didn't show. What happened? No one went there.

People who were in Atlanta stayed in the city and didn't venture far from their hotels.

A buddy of mine managed a restaurant in Buckhead during the Olympics and said they took a bath for pretty much the whole month.  Went to visit in summer of '97, and the whole area was completely packed.

LOL!!! I think the best part was all the Olympic vendors selling their crap. They got hosed big time.
They were still selling that crap months later there was so much unsold.

The presentation, geography, and the attributes of the city have nothing to do with how the
location of the Olympics is determined.

As we learned with Salt Lake, the only real consideration is hard cash funnelled into the
pockets of individual IOC members.

It's nearly inconceivable, but the IOC is even more corrupt than the United Nations.

Had the muslim really wanted the show to be in Chicago, it could easily have been purchased.
