Letter to editor in IL
« on: July 06, 2009, 02:41:09 PM »
Hi,

We have a summer home here in IL and they are having a "budget crisis".  The governor says he will veto any budget that does not have an income tax increase.  Both democrat and republican legislators do not want that so the governor is playing hard ball threatening to take away programs for those who are most needy in order to create as uproar to get his way.  Typical liberal Illinois BS.  I wrote the following letter to the local paper today, doubt if it will get printed.

Dear Editor,

Last month I received a report which was discussing governments in general.   When looking at the situaiton here in Illinois, one paragraph seemed most appropriate.

"In anything should be clear from history, then it is that governments, in times of crisis, ultimatley strive to please the masses.  They will not make the hard choices required to fix the true problems.  They will not go into a mode of self-reflective discovery and repentence, and will not accept the blame.  Now will they take any responsibility.  They will find scapegoats.  They will fight for the status quo with whatever it takes."

It would seem to me that the Illinois legislature, like many governments, received great tax revenues from the economic boom.  Blessed with all this money, rather than save for the rainy day, they spend like a bunch of drunk shopaholics, "Oh goody!  More money, let's see what else we can spend it on!".  Well now times have turned, it is the rainy day and the governor wants to raise taxes to solve the problem...so they can keep up their spending addiction.  How about the governor and all state employees taking salary cuts, at least they have jobs.  It is because of government that almost 10% of the population is unemployed....of course no government would ever fess up to that either.

Illinois is a prime example of corrupt state politics, and it is from both sides of the aisle.  Most indicators point to Chicago as a prominent cause of the corruption.

I for one am glad that Chicago politics and their machinations don't effect the federal government. :sarcasm:

Hi,

Me too, gosh I can't imagine what it would be like if you had a Chicago corrupt politician as president or something, they would give away the store, they would try to stuff the ballot box, and probably hire a bunch of folks who cheat on their income taxes.

Sure glad that will never happen......
