Eight minutes to cook a weiner was not too bad. Popcorn took all night. The microwave took up alot of counter space, even more then mother's liquor.

The ovens they started putting in 7-Eleven stores in 1972 were small and very powerful.  A lot changed in a very short time.

My dad bought my mom a microwave for some occasion in the early 80s late 70s.  It also had a picture of the meats you could cook in it if you used the thermometer that came included.  He bought a GINORMOUS slab of beef and stuck it in that thing with the thermometer.  A nastier tasting, rubber consistency slab of nuked beef has never been seen.  We all just sat at the table and stared at it.  No one had strong enough jaws to actually chew it.

I got one towards the end of 1979. My daughter had finally decided to accept a bottle (she was 6 months old!) and I would warm it in the microwave.

Wanna know how many of them exploded before I figured out how to do it.... :thatsright: I used those Playtex nursing bottles and they were a plastic tube, that I put a tube-like baggie in, then filled with formula, and put the top on. If the least overheated....those puppies just exploded everywhere! I was really happy when she refused a bottle when she 11 months old..... :-)

We did that.  The trick was to nuke them in 15-20 second intervals without the nipple in place.

My A/C wouldn't cool on Sunday and I had a house full of people over for Father's Day.  I didn't even use the big oven, just the toaster oven.
It stayed on 79 - 80 degress...and it was close to 100 degree weather here.

Today, the Central Air guy comes over and tells me I was low on Frion (sp?)...so he charged it up and told me he'll come back in 4 weeks to check for leak in the coils....

Never a dull moment.

Whatever you do, do not get the Freon leak fixed. I know it is expensive to keep having it recharged, but think about how much you are helping with GlowBull Warming.  :rotf:

It's a wonder I still have all my fingers! We used to get roman candles and shoot them at each other! I got really brave (stupid) once and actually held one of those big rockets in my hand while my partner in crime lit the fuse. I still have the scar! It all came to realization when one blew up not more than a foot away from my face! That was pretty much the end of my experimentation with fireworks doncha know!

I was an only child til mid teens......and very much a girly girl.

Married a doctor who would have needed directions to find his way out of a paper bag, much less blow something up.

Have spent the last 15.5 years with a mechanical engineer...who created a "degree" for himself making things go boom! I'm not sure the statute of limitations is up on some of the things he did 50+ years ago!!!  :o :o :o

It's a good thing my son, at 10-12 yrs old,  did not know what could be done with metal tubes and a box of stick matches....  :uhsure:


I, on the other hand, was being creative yesterday, and decided to melt lemon curd in the microwave....not only did it boil and make a mess.....that stuff stayed hot a long time..... :thatsright:

Lemon curd is an awesome, tasty lemon spread that you can put on toast or bagels.  It's made with lemon juice, sugar, and lemon peel.

It's almost like a lemon jelly, but more solid. It's most often used as filling in between cake layers.

I had this idea yesterday for a cake....

I made a lemon pudding cake, with fresh blueberries, fresh lemon juice, pulp and grated zest in it. Did it in a bundt pan.

When it came out of the pan, I poured the melted lemon curd on it, then a lemon/butter/powdered sugar glaze over the top of it.

It was incredible ....if I do say so myself!  :drool: The other three who ate it thought so too.  :-)
