Well, that's where it conflicts with my pro-life values.
However, the greatest gift God gives us as individuals is the instinct for survival.
I myself wouldn't do anything to harm a primitive, but on the other hand, I wouldn't do anything to save a primitive either.
Respectfully, I disagree.
See, this is a fundamental core principle of mine. I disagree that God's greatest gift to us is our instinct for survival. That idea of the instinct for self-preservation flies in the face of whom we consider our greatest heroes.
We think it's much more heroic--and for good reason--for someone to die in a fire saving someone else than someone saving himself. The strongest, most deserving, and best able are the ones who, in times of crisis, give their lives so that we lesser ones may live. It is evident in almost every book about war or crisis I have ever read. The bravest ones, the strongest, are the ones who go first. See
Night by Elie Weisel and
Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose for examples.
I think that God's greatest gift to us is the ability to save others. Natural law--the survival of the fittest--breaks down when it comes to humanity because we have souls.
