The large-proboscised primitive; in case anyone isn't aware, Oscar Wilde is a native of the New York City area, who moved down to Florida. And ever since he's been in Florida, Oscar Wilde's had nothing but complaints about Florida and Floridians.
Probably Oscar Wilde should go back where he came from; he'd be happier.....and so will Florida and all the decent and civilized people who live in Florida.

There are paintings depicting Mary nursing Jesus, Alice in Wonderland standing next to a drag-Queen of Hearts, and more.
Does it really need to be stated that those who can't utter the term "sex" in public have gone totally bugshit over this art show?
Of course, the rationale for their insanity is "What would the children think?" Many of these people never seem to worry about what the children would think about narrow-mindedness, or hatred, or bigotry.
Ah, well. Some people are offended by art. I wonder how many of the townsfolk of Eureka Springs are offended by white sheets and hoods. Well, maybe that's not quite fair. An art display of the history of the region would probably be referred to as "Southern Heritage."
I guess there's no accounting for taste.

Several music festivals held there including the Blus and Jazz Fest which my friend's aunt ran for 25 years. You may fine more progressive thinking people than you bargained for. Having ssid that, there's conservatives everywhere.

But somehow, the wingnuts always seem to "claim the high ground" and win when it comes to issues like the subject of this post.
That aside, blues and jazz festivals aren't in the same category as irreverent art. Why aren't the progressives making as much of a fuss for their case as the know-nothings are making for theirs?
Anytime a cultural issue comes up, the bigots always seem to win. I wonder why that is.

Eureka Springs is a lovely, artistic town that thrives in Arkansas like an oasis of tolerance. The town is gay-friendly (you can get a "marriage certificate" there, ceremonial only, alas) and is host to many artsy festivals and gatherings year round. Arkansas being Arkansas, there are still residents who hate everyone and everything that not specifically detailed in the bible, but by and large, the residents are very open-minded and friendly people. I visited a few years back for their annual gay week (missed it by a week, actually, but enjoyed the classic car show they had going on instead) and had a great time.

And, by the way, if you ever get a chance to visit Eureka Springs, I recommend it. It's a really cool town.
