It's Friday. Let Joyous Merriment Spring Forth!
« on: May 01, 2009, 07:28:01 AM »
Nice day predicted here.

I am finally going to lay down some weedkiller on the lawn today. Our front yard looks like a dandelion farm and I live on a cul de sac full of Lawn Nazi's who have been eyeing me darkly and muttering a lot lately.  Plus we have these fuzzy Jurrassic looking plant things growing in the back yard that look like they will snap at your ankles if you get too close.

I effing hate my lawn. :-)

Gotta get a new mower ASAP too. The rider went Ta Ta's Up and the self propelled sounds like a Yugo trying to go up a San Fransisco hill these days.

My wife is winding down a hellish week at work and will actually be gracing us for dinner tonight, so I am thawing a nice pork roast.

Enjoy working on the lawn, asdf.

But rather than thinking of it as working on the lawn, think of it as communing with nature.

Nothing going on here today; still raining, reasonably cool (mid-50s), which is usually the way I like the outdoors to be, so I can be outdoors.

But one apparently has to be careful about liking rain in the Sandhills of Nebraska too much; I read some sort of scientific paper last night that pointed out, in all of the places of the world, it is in the Sandhills of Nebraska where after rain, brown turns to green, and bare spots to foliage, more quickly than anywhere else known to mankind.

I had thought this sudden-change-right-in-front-of-one's-eyes was normal, but apparently it doesn't happen as quickly in other places.

If the ancient crippled cat Gustav shows up today, I'm taking him to the veterinary for inspection.  There's nothing wrong with him, he's as healthy as can be, but for a while I've been suspecting he's blind.  Just casual observation and intuition; after all, if I can masquerade as a hearing person, I'm sure Gustav can play the role of a seeing cat.

Severe weather here.  Got 1-1/2" of rain last night alone.  More on the way.  The grass will be about 1' tall by the time I can mow next week when the rains quit.

The volume has picked up at work, so that's a good thing job security-wise.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. Hooray for Friday!  There is a chance of rain today and through the weekend.  I'm starting to make some progress on the cubicle full of files at work, and everything that was urgent is just about done, so today I can relax and just work through whatever I need to do without pressure  :-)  Get some of the older, non-urgent stuff off my desk finally.

Happy first day of May.  I think every country but ours has the day off today  :lmao:

We finally got some rain really early this morning....yippee!!!!!! Giving all the new fleurs a lovely shower. The trees have gone from mini-leaf stage to full fledged leaves this week. My green is all back....I just love it!!

Storms supposedly later. According to the map...Lug and Chris have them now and they are to charge over this way.

Going to finish my book, do a bit of work work...and then projects around here. There are sooooo many  :banghead:...it's hard to know where to start....

This one friday I'm really looking forward to. This means that on Monday the kidlet goes on a week long school camp, and mom and dad are going to have the run of the house. We have a new shower to break in.   :naughty:

Mid 80's & very low humidity.

Physical thearpy on my neck, back & shoulder, followed by a deep tissue massage in about an hour.

Work until 10 PM tonight, good times. It's Percocet Friday Nights here in Nevada.  :rotf: I always end up throwing at least one customer out of the store on Friday nights! One showed up a day early, I booted his ass yesterday.  :-)

I should have time to go swimming before work, I try to do that everyday. With emphisis on the word "try"

Rain all morning, but now it's stopped.   Haven't heard yet if tonight's ball games will be cancelled or not.  If noit, it's our turn to work in the concession stand.

Spent the morning shopping...dound a skirt and top to wear for the gala thingy next week, as well as miscellaneous things on sale for the kiddos.

Gonna tackle the dining room table here in a bit...it's so cluttered we can't even sit there to eat right now!

Just got home from work... had a much better day today, especially since it was PAY DAY!   :hyper:  Although, I did notice that too little was withheld on my federal income tax, so I need to look into that.  I would rather not have to pay up next year for that. :(

Little storm just blew through here. I'd say it only rained cats.

Thinking about wine over beer tonight. Or neither. Where the party people at??

I'm okay with a bag of frozen Tyson wings.  After a few beers, it doesn't matter.

Quote from: Mark Twain
"My philological studies have satisfied me that a gifted person ought to learn English (barring spelling and pronouncing) in thirty hours, French in thirty days, and German in thirty years. It seems manifest, then, that the latter tongue ought to be trimmed down and repaired. If it is to remain as it is, it ought to be gently and reverently set aside among the dead languages, for only the dead have time to learn it."

"Whenever the literary German dives into a sentence, that is the last you are going to see of him till he emerges on the other side of his Atlantic with his verb in his mouth."

  Bahama Breeze has a similar mango habanero hot wing.  Pity the unlucky bastard that had to puree those peppers to make the sauce.

I love the part where Twain writes in Enligh using German grammer rules.  :rotf:

I tried to learn German in high school.  I gave up after a year and a half... it was impossible.  Spanish would have been more useful, but those classes filled up almost immediately.  Here's the rest of those quotes; I like the one about the dog. http://www.kombu.de/twain-3.htm

:o  I saw a clip of a guy from a show on the Travel channel..."Man vs. Food." he was given the "Hellfire Challenge" involving hot wings covered in about six ounces of habanero sauce... just watch.   Apparently the owner/chef and the employees are too chickenshit to try this challenge themselves.  :lmao:

What I loved about the  challenge was that the guy wasn't allowed to remove the sauce from his fingers via a napkin.  He had to LICK it off the fingers, then sit for 5 minutes with whatever sauce is left to burn his fingers.  :rotf:

I developed a tolerance to the habanero peppers after a while.  They sure are tasty; the cooking process tones down the heat and delays the 'burn' -- try using a smoked jalapeno peper (chipotle) instead of a regular jalapeno.  You won't burn your mouth, but you'll be sweating by the time it hits your stomach. :-)

Great stuff. It's too long since I read A Tramp Abroad but That Awful German Language is a short story and a lot of fun.

It's settled, I'm having wine.
