Mexico slams Burger King for 'whopper' of insult
« on: April 14, 2009, 01:34:31 PM »
"MEXICO CITY — Mexico is protesting what it says is a whopper of an insult.

An advertisement for Burger King’s Texican Whopper burger that has run in Europe shows a small wrestler dressed in a cape resembling a Mexican flag. The wrestler teams up with a lanky American cowboy almost twice his height to illustrate the cross-border blend of flavors.

“The taste of Texas with a little spicy Mexican,” a narrator’s voice says.

The taller cowboy boosts the wrestler up to reach high shelves and helps clean tall windows, while the Mexican helps the cowboy open a jar.

Mexico’s ambassador to Spain said Monday he has written a letter to Burger King’s offices in that nation objecting to the ad and asking that it be removed. Jorge Zermeno told Radio Formula that the ads “improperly use the stereotyped image of a Mexican.”  TexMex

...snore....snik, "huh?". [Yawn and a stretch....]

"Wha? Mexico is pissed off? Because of a freakin' Burger King ad?"  :rotf:  :lmao:

**** 'em. When they get a handle on their illegals, maybe it's time to pass out Mexican jumping beans so the little bastard can reach high enough to clean windows.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

They should have shown the little Mexican smuggling illegal Burger King condiments into the Texan's home.  That would be symbolic and not at all stereotypical.

Maybe Mexico would have been happier if the Mexican in the commercial was a drug mule sneaking across the border.... or a fruit picker...or a grounds keeper.  There are worse stereotypes than the wrestling one.  At least the wrestling one in general does not promote breaking laws (like entering a country illegally).   :thatsright:
