Manager: NYC 'Obama Fried Chicken' will not change name
The Associated Press 4/8/09

The manager of Obama Fried Chicken says the New York City restaurant now plans to keep its name despite protests.
Mohammad Jabbar said Tuesday the owner has changed his mind about replacing the sign on the front of the Brooklyn business. He says the name was chosen as a tribute to the president and four out of five customers support it.

The restaurant is in Brownsville, a predominantly black neighborhood.

Activist Kevin McCall says the name is "very offensive to African Americans." Another protest is planned for Saturday.

The White House says the administration disapproves of using the president's name and likeness for commercial purposes. It has not commented directly on the issue of racial overtones in the restaurant's name.

What racial overtones?  Obama is mostly white.  White people eat fried chicken (it's a favorite at picnics).  Is that the racial overtones?  Why would real blacks be offended by using the name of a mostly white muslim to identify fried chicken?  Would "Step'N Fry It" be more tasteful?  Or "Amos and All White Meat"?  How about "Rochester's Roaster"?

Racial overtones?  How about racial insanity?

The "community" doesn't have a problem with Sylvia's in Harlem.  It has a photo of a black woman (Sylvia) in their logo.  Sylvia's serves a Southern Black cuisine.  Fried chicken, collard greens, butter beans, etc. (all "to die for" by the way).

Why the two faces?

I still think that's why he didn't want his original BC released to the public.  It does not say he's black.  Typically the race of a newborn is matched to that of the mother in mixed-race births.

Two things.

I'm not sure where you got that info from, but Arab is language. It is not race. Arabs have been different races. Being Arabic doesn't cancel out one's race. That also explains why people from Iran are not Arab even though they look like their neighbors.
