My gas bill was $350 -- yikes!
The highest it's ever been before was $150. Apparently DTE Energy bought the winter's supply of gas last summer at the peak of high prices and we are all paying for it now. I can't imagine what people who stay home all day are paying; I turn it down to 58 when I leave for work and when I go to bed.

I'm on a mission for some nice fleece lined slippers and have renewed acquaintance with my down throw. Especially since our nighttime forecast is for below zero every night this week. Brrrrr.
Bullshit.  Sheer BS. If they are setting their thermo down that far there is no way they burned $350 in gas in one month. unless this idiot left their oven on for 30 days...  :whatever:

I bet someone didn't pay the previous month and this is 2 months combined.

When I lived in upstate NY I had a gas bill of $500 for one month.  It was seriously cold that month and never even made it close to 32 degrees in the whole month.  It is possible.  That was 8/9 years ago too.

So this DUmbass is rooting for global warming now?

Funny how a liberal and their policies change on a dime when they actually have to pay for them.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Wait a minute.  Does he work something besides a normal shift?  Does he turn it up for the time it takes to get ready and leave for work?  Never mind, this has to be a bouncy or at least a stretchy. He claims to have a job.  :rotf:

The last four winters in my ex's funky old house in Montreal cost us at least $600 a month in oil during the heating season. My place in VT has two monitor heaters that run on kerosene. Probably cost me $600 for the whole winter this year. Maybe a grand, we'll have to see.

According to his profile he lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, so it seems plausible that his bill was that high to me.  But I would be surprised if it had never been that high before.

But then what do I know, I live in Texas.   :-)

My thermostat goes up automatically to 68 at 6am to 8am.  Then it goes down to 62, then at 6pm it goes back up to 68 until 10pm when it goes down to 62.  So, it starts warming up the house right before I wake up.  And if I'm up later than 10 (which is normal) once I start feeling a little too chilly, I'll bump it up until I go to bed.  But on Saturdays when I sleep in past 8, it really sucks getting up in a cold house.  LOL

You have one of them thar programable thermostats.  I just installed one.  I've used them in the past and they can save money on the heating/cooling bills.

I always turn mine off when I leave for work.  But I don't live in Freez-O-Land.  Whenever I come home, my apartment is always extremely hot.

You won't save much by having the furnace kick on half a dozen times a day. Set the themostat to 2 tempatures and leave it alone.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

It's too early for me to tell with the new unit I just installed, but I averaged about a 20% savings the last time I had a programable thermostat.

During the winter months, I have it programmed to 64 at night while we are sleep, 62 while we are at work and 68 when we are home.

The highest my gas bill has been (this is the second winter in this house) is $90.  I rather like that it goes down automatically while I'm at work and before bed.
