Jindal says no

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, seen by many Republicans as the most promising standard-bearer for a remade party, said at a Richmond, Va press conference that he isn't running for president in 2012.

At a news conference Wednesday with Bob McDonnell, Virginia's 2009 Republican candidate for governor, Jindal was asked if he was interested in being president, AP reports.

His answer: "No."

Jindal said he's planning to run for reelection in 2011, something that would make pivoting to a national campaign logistically and politically tricky.

UPDATE: A later version of the AP story quotes Jindal trying to tack back to his previous position, which had seemed to leave the door open.

"I think anybody who is even thinking of running would be well served to roll up their sleeves and support our new president," Jindal said. "I told our people, 'It doesn't matter whether you're Republican, Democrat or independent, it doesn't matter whether you voted for him or not, President-elect Barack Obama is our president.'"

this was "breaking news" when it was "no" . . . "maybe" puts it back in "political rants and raves". :-)

LOL!  What about "unlikely"?  Here's the AP version.

Despite Iowa trip, Jindal says 2012 bid unlikely

By BOB LEWIS – 1 hour ago

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Wednesday he's not interested in a 2012 Republican presidential bid and will seek a second term as governor in 2011.

Jindal, who appeared at a news conference to back Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, was asked if he was interested in being president.

"No," he replied.

Jindal's trip to Iowa last month fueled speculation that he was laying the groundwork for a presidential campaign, and he did not rule out changing his mind over the next few years.

Instead, he said Americans are weary after the longest, most expensive election cycle in U.S. history.

In the wake of Republican losses in Congress and a blowout defeat in the presidential race, Jindal is an early favorite among many Republicans for 2012.

He's young, 37, and has strong support from conservatives for his income tax-cutting initiatives. Many of them advocated for John McCain to pick Jindal as his vice presidential running mate.

Jindal also enjoyed broad-based approval for his handling of back-to-back hurricanes, Gustav and Ike, that menaced his state and New Orleans in particular in August and September, just three years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area.

Jindal/Palin 2012 or Palin/Jindal 2012 ?  Either one would likely attract much of the republican base.

I'm liking Palin/Jindal...but I  must confess neither have large enough cojones to take on the Barrack$tar.
Unless of course, the Barrack$tar makes a complete and utter fool of himself during his presidency by a.) Making stupid decisions in critical times or b) none of his campaign promises come to fruition....then all bets are off...the republicans can run Mickey Mouse and win. :-)

And THAT is the problem........ The GOP has found weak candidates in the past and they were lucky to have won.

Problem with that:

If you check the ACORN records in the states of Florida, Califunny, Ohio, Nevada, New Mexico and probably Michigan and Colorado as well, you'll find the Mr. M. Mouse is a registered and active voting Democrat.  He is probably single-handedly responsible for the close senate count in Minnesota, and I coulda sworn that he had a press conference about the same time as Colin Powell last month, giving his endorsement to der Fuhrer.

You'll never get Mickey Mouse to run as a Republican.

amazingly enough, ACORN bombed at election theft in november.  turnout was flat in OH, and actually down in cuyahoga county, and mccain won missouri.  if they couldn't steal missouri, or boost turnout in cuyahoga county significantly, then they just failed.

I know, I couldn't believe it either.  but take heart, they probably stole lake county in indiana, and that's probably how mccain lost that state. :-)

My wife got a Thank-you letter from the County clerk/recorder the other day thanking her for serving as an elections judge November 4th.  It gave some stats for our county:

   -  About 116,000 Weld County voters voted in the General Election.  That's 91% turnout of the registered voter database.  The 2004 voter
      turnout was 90%.

   -  80% of those voters cast their ballots BEFORE November 4th.  Only about 19,000 voters showed up at the polling centers on election
day in our county.  60% voted early by mail-in ballot, and the remaining 20% voted early in person at the designated locations.

By the way, Weld County was a solid red island in a friggin' sea of blue this election.

I mention this because I wonder if the growing accessibility of early voting is making the vote fraud tactics of the ACORNS of this country obsolete.
