I dunno; I sort of agree with the barstooling primitive, although with more intensity.
The flag, to me, represents the principles, the ideas, of America, not necessarily Americans.
I love America with a passionate intensity--those principles, those ideas--but there's plenty of Americans I wouldn't miss if they evaporated.
The primitives, for example. And most Democrats and liberals.
The feeling one gets, when faraway, isolated, from America, upon seeing the flag evokes emotions one can't articulate. But it's all about what America is, not what Americans are.
