Well, we did it

Election night is always remarkably nerve-wracking for us behind the scenes at DU -- not only are we worried about the election results along with all of you, but because we are worried that the site won't be able to handle all the additional traffic, or that something even worse might happen (see: 2016).

We put in a lot of work this year to protect the site against rogue traffic, and it paid off last night. Despite periods where there were about 15 minutes between the top thread and the bottom thread on the Latest Discussions page (compared to the usual 2-3 hours) the site remained stable, there were few if any slowdowns, we saw no reports of downtime or errors, and we did not have to restrict access to members only.

Not only that, but it all came together on the best night for Democrats -- and for America -- in a LONG time! What a result!

Just a gentle reminder: As the post-election euphoria fades, we are likely to start seeing threads discussing Democratic leadership in the House and Senate, and I've already seen one or two media segments talking about who the Democrats might run for president in 2028. To be clear, there is nothing wrong with having these discussions on DU, but as always, the discussions will be better if we all try to keep them civil and respectful.

Going forward: Somehow I don't see Donald Trump making life easier for Republicans over the next two years. I expect to see a lot of stonewalling, whining, finger-pointing, and more of the same totalitarian nonsense that voters just rejected -- all of which is going to drag the GOP down even further as Republican politicians struggle to decide whether to stick with hated loser Trump or try to break away from him. His approval rating should continue to decline.

Meanwhile, Democrats have a massive mandate for change and a huge slate of exciting 2028 presidential candidates. Things are going to get very interesting, and we plan to be here for all of it. So I guess this would be a good time to say, if you like what we're doing, please consider re-upping your Star Membership to support DU!

The best thing for the GOP would be is the Donks actually tried to implement all of their bullshit ideas.  Let's start w/ Abolish the Senate.

No, there is massive backlash against the war. If your party interprets this election as a mandate to do all the other things they are for, expect something similar to happen to them electorally somewhere down the line.

Their rhetoric is predictable.

Their actions, likewise, are predictable.

They're going to offer attractive things in legislation, and attach to them, every last thing in the well known dem wish list, and use the rejection of those things as a cudgel.

And its going to blow up in their corrupt faces.
"Be not intimidated... nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice." - John Adams
