An unexpected surprise occurred on the floor of the 2026 Republican Midterm Convention on Thursday, when the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security claimed that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) married her brother and that consequences are coming.

“Something’s going to happen,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said after Benny Johnson asked about the accusation that Omar married her brother so that he could stay in the United States.

‘We know that she married her brother to try to bring him into the United States.’

Rumors that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, who married Omar in 2009, is Omar's biological brother have swirled for years. Mullin seemed to confirm those rumors to Johnson Thursday night.
