My daughter just took her two week old baby to pediatrician
for checkup. We are in Albuquerque. There is a measles case in neighboring Los Lunas. She is advised to not let baby around “anyone with even a sniffle” and if there is even one measles case in our county (Bernalillo) she is advised to take her 3 year old son to get his booster early (not due until October when he turns 4).

Seems baby can’t get her MMR until she is 6 months old.

We are a blue state and thus far our Department of Health is keeping up.

Just wanted to share with my NM neighbors.

I think the part of NM experiencing a measles outbreak borders Texas (Lubbock area?), so something like 150 miles from Bernalillo County. Los Lunas is 20 or 25 miles south of Albuquerque. If the daughter is nursing, her baby would have received some antibodies via the colostrum in the first day or two. Not zero risk, but pretty low risk.

I saw a headline today that TX officials expect they won't find the source of the outbreak. Your comment is probably correct. Some illegal(s) with measles probably wandered through NM or TX and started an outbreak in one state that then spread to the other.

The 2014 measles outbreak in Disneyland came from a tourist who had measles visiting the House of Mouse. Between anti-vaxxers and people who think measles has been eradicated, there are a fair-sized minority of people who never received the MMR vaccination. Also vaccines are not magic or perfect. The term "breakthrough infection" was not, contrary to what some want to believe, invented for Covid vaccines.

Every day my 66-year-old self stands in amazement that this carbon-based life form made it past my first 24 hours never mind 66 years. My mom told me I had the measles, I just don't remember because I was just a baby at the time.  I wasn't vaccinated either.

I think I had measles along about age 10. The measles vaccine probably was not approved then (approved ca. 1964 or 1965). Measles can range from an annoying itchy rash (which I had) to persons dying (probably without timely treatment or when in combination with another disease).
