mnhtnbb (31,851 posts)Long lines for early voting in NC and I was in one of them yesterday!I voted yesterday morning in Durham (NC) which is a very blue--if not the bluest--county in NC. It was at a branch library location where I usually vote. The parking lot was full--people circling--and overflow parking across the street. It took an hour waiting in line to vote. Never in my life have I waited an hour in line to vote! In the three years I've been early voting at this particular location I've never had to wait. Ever. There were 12 voting booths inside to mark your ballot; six or seven volunteers at laptops to check your registration; and two volunteers to hand out the particular ballot for your precinct. It was a smooth process. NC has ALL paper ballots in all counties. When I put my ballot in the machine, it was accepted and counted as #306. While in line, I had figured there were about a hundred people in front of me. Here's the photo:From the media:DURHAM, N.C. State election officials expect the final count for 2024's first day to meet or exceed the 350,000 benchmark.Throughout the bulk of the morning and early afternoon, lines ranged from 45 minutes to an hour, though were shorter into the afternoon.
