You Blew It, Republicans - Twice

Whatever delusions the GOP held about Trump when he was elected were surely gone by the time of his first impeachment trial. By then you knew that he was a lying, corrupt, out-of-control criminal whose behaviour was not only detrimental to the country, but a liability to your party.

I realize that the former was of no concern to you, but thought at least the latter would have been.

You could have rid yourself of the Orange menace then and there by voting to convict. But you chose to persist in defending his actions - actions you knew were illegal, and demonstrated that your "pResident" was a loose cannon who had no regard for the survival of your party, and even less regard for the welfare of a nation.

Perhaps you adopted the perennially-concerned Susan Collins' position that Trump had "learned his lesson", and would rein-in his demons and walk the straight-and-narrow for the remainder of his term in office.

But that didn't happen, and you were handed that rarest of things - a second chance. A second chance to correct your mistakes, a second chance to declare that in inciting and orchestrating an insurrection against the US government and democracy itself, your "pResident" had gone too far and should be removed from office.

It seemed so obvious, so in-your-face apparent, that finally declaring that enough was enough was the GOP's last hope of retaining any credibility as a political force was to vote to convict in a second impeachment trial. But instead, you chose to stand by your man, and pretend that the events of January 6th simply never happened.

So where are you now, Republicans? You are left holding the bag. You are left still defending a man who is being exposed as what he's always been - and what you've always known him to be: a grifter whose wealth is a fabrication, whose business savvy is being revealed as complete fiction, whose financial transactions are being proven to be nothing more than a smoke-and-mirrors attempt to avoid prosecution.

Despite the seriousness of pending charges, I cannot help but be amused by your party's futile attempts to portray Trump as an innocent victim of politically-motivated investigations into his crimes - as though those damned Democrats 'n' Liberals put a gun to his head and forced him to falsify his tax returns and financial statements.

You are where you are, Republicans, because you blew TWO chances to kick your beloved "pResident" to the curb.

Actions have consequences - and you're about to understand what those consequences are.

BTW, good luck in 2024. I'm sure that your defense of a by-then-indicted former "pResident" will serve you well in convincing American voters just how dedicated your party is to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.

4. Question is can we make that case stick in 2022 and 2024? Or will goons and loons prevail?

Some convictions might help. Joe with his sheer competence might help. Seems to me Dem Gov's and Senators might do more. But you know there are still those anti-Joe yard signs as well as Jesus is my Saviour, Trump is my President goons and loons.

Outstanding, I don't know how you grind it out every day

9. I agree with you, I am just not sure we are going to make it to 2024.

They cheat. They always have and always will. Now more than ever. It is the ONLY way they can win and they know it. And they will do it. I am not so sure we have the votes to overcome it.

12. I agree with you that they will cheat.

Some votes will not be counted, especially mail ballots that are easier to reject for specious reasons. Already Texas is rejecting 30 to 50% of registrations to vote because they’ve changed the forms to make it easier to miss a number required or to put it in the wrong place. They know that the majority of new voters are more likely to be Democrats, so if they keep more from even registering, that benefits them. Applications for mail ballots are also being rejected for the same reasons. I believe Democratic voters would do well to vote in person in states like Texas where the rules have changed drastically.

13. During the 2015 Campaign, someone asked me why I thought trump would be a terrible president

if he won. I said, it is simple "Actions have consequences, and trump has always been shielded from consequences, he doesn't understand about consequences, and he doesn't care."

Not understanding that simple fact of "Actions have Consequences" is a common attribute of criminals, that is why they are criminals.

18. The Reason Why They Win It Back

Because a lot of Democrats are going to stay at home because they feel that the current leadership is not doing anything to improve their lives and fight the threat of fascism

When I read this thread's title I knew the DUthor would be DU's reigning Queen of Garrulity. Someone should compile her "Memos to the Republican Party" into a book. It'd be hilarious and an insomnia cure all in one, :rotf: .

No, dems blew it.

Biden had every chance to not be a total failure as president- vaccines, an economy with a chance to rebound, and just generally not being insane- and he blew it.

This drunken old sot is preaching to her own hardcore base of leftists (about 10-20%) of the population that have an unhealthy obsession with President Trump.  And about January 6th.  90%+ of the public absolutely doesn't care.  Having a passion is one thing, but Crazy Aunt Nance is suffering from what a psychiatrist would call obsessive behavior.  Guess that's why she gets her pallets of booze and smokes in bunches and types manifestos from her dingy Canadian cottage.

Could we get Canadian truckers to refuse to deliver alcohol to Toronto for six months or so? Maybe Nance might dry out ... or get the DTs ... not that the latter would be particularly noticeable.

Some convictions might help. Joe with his sheer competence might help.

Dear lurking Dems, bucolic_frolic has hit the nail on the head - make the entire campaign about the competence of the current administration, have him (and his Vice-President) front and centre, constantly talk about his achievements, nothing else is needed.
