19-year-old Aaron Coleman, the Democratic nominee for a seat in the Kansas House of Representatives, has already admitted to instances of bullying and revenge porn while in middle school five years ago. He's apologized for his behavior and said that it was in the past.

Now, a woman who says she is his ex-girlfriend has come forward with claims that he choked and slapped her, and encouraged her to take her own life within the last year.

The Intercept reported on Tuesday that Taylor Passow, 21, said that Coleman choked and slapped her one night in December 2019 after she joked that she would break up with him for one day to allow him to have a threesome, which she says he had expressed interest in. They were hanging out in a hot tub, and Coleman was apparently upset with the joke, Passow said.

Passow's claims come as the public grapples with Coleman's local candidacy, which is likely to land him in the state's legislature. Coleman, a progressive Democrat who works as a dishwasher, previously admitted to claims that he had blackmailed a girl with a naked photo and bullied and harassed other individuals. He blamed it on his troubled youth.

"I made serious mistakes in middle school and I deeply regret and apologize for them. I've grown up a great deal since then," Coleman told The Kansas City Star.

Blackmailing with naked photos, also known as revenge porn, became illegal in Kansas in 2016, one year after Coleman's admitted actions.

In light of those claims, progressives have called for Coleman to drop out of the race. In a statement posted to Twitter on Tuesday, Coleman said that though he considered withdrawing, he would continue running to "improve the lives of ordinary people, of working people."

Democratic Kansas state House candidate blames abuse of ex-girlfriend on lack of 'early childhood education funding'

A 19-year-old Kansas Democrat running for a seat in the state House blamed a lack of "early childhood education funding" after admitting to abusive behavior toward his ex-girlfriend on Sunday.

"We must strive to create a society safe for women, which we currently do not do," candidate Aaron Coleman wrote in a statement. "I believe if we had more early childhood education funding, and taught what healthy interpersonal relationships look like, my ex and I would have been less toxic to each other."

Coleman also used his ex's accusations to make a case for "Medicaid for all."

Bullying starts with you. 

"While it is true I was abusive to my ex-girlfriend, I do not agree with the characterization being made about our experience in the hot tub the day after Christmas," Coleman wrote in a statement on Sunday. "I did not choke her. I also don't think she is intentionally lying, as I know large quantities of alcohol could be affecting both of our memories."

Coleman is running in a longtime Democratic district in which there is no Republican challenger -- although GOP candidate Kristina Smith is running as a write-in candidate.

Coleman said in August he would drop out of the race after admitting to a "revenge porn" incident when he was in middle school and to harassing others on social media, but then he reversed course later that month.
