Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley slammed Sen. Chuck Schumer's call to delay Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorusch's confirmation process because of the FBI probe into potential ties
between Donald Trump's presidential campaign and Russia, the Washington Examiner reported.
"There is a process for determining whether or not the president should be in office, but as long as he's in office he can exercise his constitutional powers and that's what's being done here," Grassley, an Iowa Republican, said.
"And I think it's ridiculous to think when a president is duly elected, he should stop functioning as president of the United States. That's simply ridiculous."
Schumer, the Democratic minority leader, has insisted a delay in confirming Gorsuch is necessary
due to the ongoing FBI probe, according to Politico.
"You can bet, if the shoe were on the other foot and a Democratic president was under investigation by the FBI, the Republicans would be howling at the moon about filling a Supreme Court seat in such circumstances," said Schumer, a New York Democrat.
"It is unseemly to be moving forward so fast on confirming a Supreme Court justice with a lifetime appointment
while this big gray cloud of an FBI investigation hangs over the presidency,"
