How about we ban posters for knee jerk alerts

I have wasted too much time with alerted posts that never should have been alerted to. I know I have the option to not be on a jury, but usually feel obligated as a DU citizen. Lately the alert system has been grossly abused and I think it is time to do something.
I suggest that anyone who alerts on a set number of posts that are chosen to be left alone should not be allowed to alert for a given period of time.
I really think the system is being abused and it should be working to weed out obnoxious posters and not just anyone who happens to disagree with anyone else.

1. It will pass after the primary. Hopefully.

Yeah.  Sure.  Like it was any different beforehand.  One of Skinner's best gifts to the DUmpster was the jury system.  It's hilarious.

2. Your best course is to opt out of jury duty. One person's frivolous alert may reflect

posts that are very inappropriate for DU for other members. Who decides?

You decide.  And since the DU is the embodiment of Cole Porter's "Anything Goes", you can see why it's so hilarious to us outsiders.

4. That is my point

We decide. People who just alert to any post they do not agree with and establish a record of losing such alerts need to be given a time out.

Time out you guys!!  You guys! !

8. This too shall pass

I've seen jury responses of "this is a stupid alert" many times when it wasn't--and usually the majority over-rides the opinion. Plus, as mentioned, this is worse for GDP, which will be gone soon.
I suggest you read what Skinner has had to say to similar complaints down in "Ask the Administrators".

9. hmm...

I've sat on 48 juries since February 16 (I didn't go back farther, and I am on DU about an hour a day, unless one of my fave posters has been unusually prolific). I have noted that a significant number of the alerts seem frivolous and/or vindictive.

Also, I have most of the Hi11ary supporters on my IL, and I still get tagged for jury duty for these individuals. While I strive to be judicious, I don't enjoy seeing their vitriol.

10. "First they came for those whose alerts were seemingly without merit, and I did not speak out...."

"Then they came for those whose posts were disruptive meta-discussions, and I did not speak out...."

...

Discuss politics, issues, and current events. Posts about Israel/Palestine, religion, guns, showbiz, or sports are restricted in this forum. Conspiracy theories and disruptive meta-discussion are forbidden.

Locking of the thread is imminent...

Dream on, dude(tte)! Realistically, the accusations of a "stolen" nomination should last for a month or two after the convention, and if Trump wins - no matter who the D nominee was - the recriminations on DU will be corrosive and toxic for months to come!
If The Vaccine is deadly as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, millions now living would have died.
