Vigil for Tamir Rice at City Heights

If nothing else, go listen to the poem by Michael Wadell. We are hosting it with permission... and reach for the tissues as well.

Dec 3, 2015 (San Diego) An Ohio grand jury found that officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback of the Cleveland Police did nothing wrong in the shooting death of 12 year old Tamir Rice. This led to a series of vigils, in honor or Rice, across the nation. There was anger in the community, not just in Clevealnd, but here in San Diego.

Police violence is a reality, according to members of communities of color. According to residents in San Diego, disparity in the treatment of people continues. Whether we are talking to Desiree Grant, who’s son was abused by Campus Police for San Diego Unified School District, or Hope who told the story of a “black guy in his car downtown near fifth and market.” Then she said cops rolled onto him. It was truly a swarm of officers. She believes somebody called the cops because of what happened next.

A bunch of white people there had to get permission from the Black Lies Matter movement to hold the vigil.

Maybe Mr. Nadin gave her permission?  Now that I think about it, she hasn't mentioned him in a long time.

Maybe he's in the deep freeze, and she's spending his retirement pay.

Three hours after posting her heart wrenching, tear inducing article about the travesty that is the oppression of the Black Man in today's America, a DU'er finally recovered enough from the power of her words to respond:
