They're all over in the Lounge.  The unemployed or fired primitives are really starting to pile up.  Here is one thread I particularly enjoyed, since Chan790, the chronically unemployed primitive who has been mostly out of work since August 17, 2011, offers to help another primitive find a job.  It would be even more pathetic if it wasn't so laughable:

Having a hard time moving forward into job search mode

2 days ago I finished the last big cleaning task -- cleaning up the garage for the first time in 4 or 5 years. It's time to start moving forward. I was supposed to start filling out applications all week, but I started having severe insomnia Sunday night and didn't really recover until the week was nearly over. Now I'm sleeping ok (with meditation recordings playing all night).

Yesterday morning I realized I hadn't given myself a full day "off" in a bloody long time. Years? I don't know. There was always either work or some scheduled chore or other. So I gave myself yesterday off.

Today is the day. I must start filling applications. I'm just having a really hard time motivating myself for minimum wage retail jobs, which are about all that's available here.

I keep offering myself rewards to move forward, but no reward seems to cut it any more. And I'm sad and depressed.

2 days ago, Oaksley unexpectedly decided to join up with Neptune. There was no sign he was going to do it -- rather the opposite. He's been very shy about leaving the barn until I turn the horses out at noontime or so. And very, very loving. He would climb up my legs until I picked him up, and wrap his legs around my neck and nuzzle my face and neck and shoulders, purring. He followed me and the horses everywhere. Follow or watch me while cleaning the barn. Follow me while walking around the pasture. Follow me and the horses when I put them out. While I played with Dahli he would hang in the ring with us. The last time I lunged her, he stalked her from outside the circle and then, as she approached, would suddenly turn and sprint away. I videoed my last ride on Dahli -- he shows up in several spots on the video. Then I started the insomnia, and for a couple days spent less time with him because I was so tired and foggy. Still visiting, holding and playing with him several times a day, for for shorter time periods.

And then, the night after the afternoon I spotted Neptune at 4:30pm. I didn't sleep at all. At 2am the light on my front door came on. I ran to check -- when I put on the floodlights, I spotted Neptune trotting alongside the garden headed down to the barn. I went back to bed. A few minutes later, the light went on a 2nd time. And a few minutes after that, the light came on a 3rd time. I thought Neptune was walking back & forth in the front.

THe next morning, Oaksley was gone. I haven't seen him since. I had wondered if Neptune might be hanging out with that gray tiger that unexpected showed up when I first brought my kitties home. Now I'm thinking the 3 lights were the 3 of them.

I still put their food out at night and it's gone by morning. I checked last night at 9pm and most of it was gone. This morning, the remaining bit was gone. I can't believe Oaksley left me.  Neptune, we expected. But not Oaksley.

I woke up at 3:45 or so this morning. A short time later the front lights came on. I ran to check, but didn't see anything for sure. I *may* have seen a light colored tail across the street headed into the dark, so maybe that was Oaksley and maybe the house light or something else startled him.

2. Where, generally, is "here"

I'm pretty damned great at finding people good-enough-for-now jobs while they look. I can put a few hours into that for you. You can PM me a location (within your willing travel radius...that is, don't say Indianapolis is Indy is 45 miles away and you're not willing to travel more than 15 miles.) if you want.

Particularly though, try Starbucks...you're clearly smart enough to do that job and they pay actually fairly well (Even if you start at minimum...it's minimum plus tips so that's another ~$3-4/hour.) It's not a job I'd want to do forever...but it'll pay the bills while you search.

I just got hired for the season by Barnes & Noble. I asked for $10 and got it with no argument...so now I'm thinking I asked for too little.

Here is another primitive who just lost their job:

Just found out I'm losing my job.

Well, actually on Monday, but I was in shock until I realized it on Thursday morning at about 12:01 am. Called in sick that day. And worked overtime today. Things were going so well. Oh well.

19. Actually thats a possibility,

I am a lowly maintenance man, but because of that, no-one knows our buildings inside and out like I do. I'll definitely be working on that angle with the new owners.

Slow Joe must have thought nobody knew about all of the hidey holes he was probably napping in when he was supposed to be working.

The DUmmies have little to no ambition to make themselves valuable to their fellow human beings.

Liberal thinking is a two-legged stool and magical thinking is one of the legs, the other is a combination of self-loating and misanthropy.  To understand it, you would have to be able to sit on that stool while juggling two elephants, an anvil and a fragmentation grenade, sans pin.

The magical thyme primitive is, from what I can tell a call center worker. She was supposed to also be a part time medical lab tech. This fact is of interest to me because my daughter is a medical lab technologist. The difference between the two is that (depending on the state) the tech has either no college or at most a 2 year degree and works under the technologist who has a B.S. degree (or higher).

Be that as it may, this primitive has more important things to do besides work for a living, such as collect animals as pets. Big expensive animals like horses. I think also she has social issues and cannot get along with other women in the work place.

A medical lab tech., while not a great paying job is fairly easy to find employment (if only part time) if you are willing to go where the jobs are. A tech with a degree (associates degree) has been through an internship for two semesters, a technologist has three years of undergrad work (heavy in math and science) and a year internship.

Many technologist take 5 years to complete their degree if they didn't take AP chemistry and calculus in high school. A non-degreed tech is working at the mercy of the lab manager and the best way to stay employed (besides showing up for work) is to work towards at minimum an associates degree. Most, if not all community colleges offer all of the class work with the exception of the internship. An individual who works towards this degree, even if taking one class at a time will find the lab managers very supportive. Those who do not are in the same boat as the tech's at the WalMart pharmacy. Just on the job training and everything has to be checked.

IMHO most liberals thinks so highly of themselves they feel they are valuable by just being there, they don't really feel they need to do much. Their mere presence is value enough for any employer.

Hence any time they lose their job it's always a big mistake by the employer.  How many times have we heard a primitive say they were fired because they were too good, they knew too much, made the boss look bad etc..etc.. etc..

I still have a very hard time reconciling the dual observations that (1) DUmmies seem to overwhelmingly be paid hourly in disposable jobs, yet (2) they are the smartest, most talented people in the world.

It isn't the old saw of "if you're so smart, why aren't you rich?" It's more like, "if you're so smart, WHY ARE SO MANY OF YOU COMPLETE AND UTTER LOSERS?"

Don't get me wrong: I can actually reconcile this pretty easily: they're actually stupid, and whatever talents they have don't help anyone make any money. I'm more amazed that THEY can't reconcile it.

Just raise the corporate tax rate some more, I'm sure that will fix it. :sarcasm:

You know what really burns my ass?

A flame about three feet high.  That was my grandpa's favorite joke. I think he first heard it when he was about 20 years old and then told it to everyone he met until he died at 80.

Seriously, something has happened to me the last few days that does piss me off. Since I was thinking about starting a new job, I've had three people take issue with me over money, and they all make a lot more money than I do.

I was going to start a new job next week, but I decided against it last Friday. However, the new place verified my employment at my current company and that made the general manager and the owner want to have a word with me.

They told me, in a meeting with both of them, that when they learn that an employee is looking elsewhere for work they usually let them go. I'm a good employee. I've driven a truck for them for the past 4.5 years and I haven't ****ed up at all. I don't miss work and I'm always on time. I haven't even taken a vacation in the last three years even though I get two weeks a year.

They knew all that and the owner asked the general manager what kind of money I make. He said that I am paid very well. I make 15 ****in' 30 an hour. I'm sitting with a multi-millionaire and a guy who makes 150k a year and they think my measly 40k a year is damn good money. Then the owner went on to explain how wonderful our insurance is.

"Do you know how good our insurance is?"

"Yeah."

"I don't think you do! It's the same insurance I use."

The implication was that I was being ungrateful. If that insurance is good enough for a millionaire it should be good enough for me.

What pisses me off is people who are wealthy taking issue with me for trying to get ahead.

I called the guy at the new place today and told him I wasn't taking the job. The main reason I was looking for a new job is because business at my current employer is slow and they were talking lay-offs. One thing they did do that was right in that meeting was tell me that I wasn't going to get laid off. He was under the impression that I was just in it for the money and told me that he wanted more than somebody who was just looking for a good check. He wanted someone who was dedicated. I'm a ****ing truck driver not an astronaut. Again, this guy probably makes a whole lot more money than they were going to pay me and he was taking jabs at me because he thought it was all about money.

What if it was all about money? How can they blame me for that? This is ******* capitalism. Everybody has to make enough money or you end up homeless.

But it wasn't all about money. That's a consideration, but I was also thinking about my quality of life. I have more leisure time at my current job. I live a mile away. I have time in there. I'm about half way up the seniority list. The insurance is good as far as insurance goes. I have to give them that. It appears to be secure, despite what I had been thinking. You probably shouldn't go telling your employees that the owner is considering lay-offs unless you really do want them to go looking for work elsewhere. That might have just been a mistake on my boss's part.

and they know that he's been looking elsewhere. He's also been bashing his employer all over the internet, so he would be a terrific starting point to trim the fat.

Well, there is a very arcane secret to earning more than 15 f'ing 30 an hour before reaching your 50s: get an education in a field that pays well and has a future, work in that field, always learning.

Not doing stupid @#$% like denigrating one's employer on public places like DU helps when it comes to minor details like advancement and retaining one's job.

Several years ago the starting wage at In N Out in San Jose was $10/hr. It was a bit higher than M, which meant they were able to get, as a whole, better workers than their competitors (competition can drive wage rates up!). Of course, this is Silicon Valley (=much higher cost of living).

Toby's probably near entry-level for his profession, and I suspect his prospects for advancement are slim and none (Slim left town ... and None's gone into a convent, :rimshot: ). He's a 50-something?

My experience has been, the more someone puts their energy into complaining about a problem, the less energy they have left over to do something about their problem.
And let's face it, We all have only a certain amount of energy to devote to either complaining or doing.
That type of energy is not only finite, it's volatile.
Not only that, even though truck driver dude claims to be looking for ways to improve his lot in life, and wants unfettered use of capitalism to accomplish his aims, there are other options open to him that he could take advantage of.
But those options would be dressed in overalls and look a lot like work.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

That would also depend on the cost of living in your area.  The left seems to ignore that fact when demanding a new national minimum wage.
