Multimillionaire Congressman Accuses Estranged Wife Of Bigamy To Annul Marriage

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A Florida family judge will hear Rep. Alan Grayson's charge that his wife committed bigamy and decide whether their 24-year marriage should be annulled.

A trial on whether the marriage was legitimate opens Monday in an Orlando courtroom.

Grayson says his wife, Lolita, was still married to another man when she and the multimillionaire congressman married in 1990 in Virginia. But Lolita Grayson says she divorced Robert Carson in 1981 in Guam.

Besides the bigamy allegation, the lead-up to Monday's trial includes accusations by Lolita Grayson that her estranged husband pushed her and that he has failed to maintain their Orlando house and support their children. There was also a delay caused by Lolita Grayson's leaky breast implant, and she has had a revolving door of attorneys.

1. Just FYI, this is the kind of thing that makes "centrist" calls for party unity ring so hollow.

This is a pretty gross smear of a prominent liberal Congressman.

2. What!?

Please explain how this is a smear and how it impacts the not yet announced Clinton campaign.

3. Oh, c'mon.

Right from the headline, it's painting Grayson as some kind of wealthy, vindictive miser, angling to kick his poor, innocent wife to the curb.

6. Maybe the shoe fits.

The fact that he fights for liberal causes doesn't necessarily mean he is a good person.

4. what a weird comment. It's a news story, not a smear.

5. I thought this was a man-vs-woman SJW issue more than left-center-right political issue

just may be me though

Not all lib agendas are equal.
Libs claim to value women, want equality for women, want equal rights for women.
Libs go out of their way to assert a conservative war on women.
Women are a sacred cow to libs.
But women get kicked to the curb almost literally if the alternative is power.
Alan Grayson represents a power asset to the libs, so he gets to run roughshod over any woman with the support advice and consent of libs.
It's a carbon copy of Clinnochio and his venal all out assault on women.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

That Grayson is the hindquarters of a horse and Lolita is a gold-digging fruitcake are not mutually exclusive. And I am only too happy for a court to root out the truths, slowly, publicly.

4. Yup.

He looks like any other guy turning selfish in a divorce and simply looking to avoid actually sharing the wealth with the partner he supposedly loved after things go sour.

5. I suspect the law is on his side

and the folks that want to silence him are concocting any story to try to bury Rep. Grayson.

Divorce and politics are a nasty business separately, but together? Have mercy.

9. Grayson is committing political suicide.

It is really foolish. There is no way he wins in the court of public opinion. He looks like a cheapskate, heartless woman hater.

Even if she didn't correctly end her first marriage, Grayson was married to her for 24 years and they had children. He should have agreed to a generous settlement immediately. That would have been the liberal and decent thing to do.

14. such a guy thing.

they seem to all do it. gettin it done to me. hiding money, playing games, dragging things out, refusing fair offers of settlement.
and then, crying about how much the wife is paying for an attorney to fight him.

this is no time to be a regular guy alan. divorce is a common thing, and no woman that has been through it is EVER going to look at you the same way.

dems are supposed to believe in fairness. you are showing that you preach it but dont think it applies to you.

18. As much as I love Alan Grayson, he certainly makes it hard to defend him with all the side issues...

he generates.

You like him because he's a bombastic asshole.

This episode is exactly in line with the personality traits you love abut him.

28. A LOT OF JUDGEMENT GOING ON HERE ABOUT GREYSON.

Do you people have information I don't about how much Greyson has offered Lolita? Do you know or are you assuming he is simply refusing to give her anything? Do you know how much she is asking for?

I've read your comments about how awful he is to be fighting her, but I see nothing to back up claims he is leaving her in the lurch.

That said, I'd like to see Greyson get back to butchering the Republicans.

29. He is exceptional in that capacity, isn't he?

I can't grasp why any Democrat would want to whoop it up regarding his marital problems. Deeply puzzling.
