marym625 (5,210 posts) 6. Didn't we allMan, back in the day of free love, mass protests, civil disobedience, great music, thoughtful, deep conversation about how to make things better. Dreamers we were. Unfortunately, we awoke to the same old nightmare
undergroundpanther (11,771 posts) 11. I don't know To change the world, but it never had to become like THIS, I used to cry rant now I just feel a mixture of sadness disgust nostalgia and rage suffocated by a feeling of powerlessness. I dunno if my writing changed any minds or not, doesn't matter, seeing this world turn into what it's turning into wont stop because millions of people do not get the magnitude of the wall we will hit head t On too very soon. Life here could have been something amazing, but millions made up thier minds to follow the leader and the money off the cliff, and all I can think are people on a mass scale subconsciously aware of what they have chosen?

LONDON, May 22 -- The musician known as Cat Stevens said in a British television program to be broadcast next week that rather than go to a demonstration to burn an effigy of the author Salman Rushdie, ''I would have hoped that it'd be the real thing.''The singer, who adopted the name Yusuf Islam when he converted to Islam, made the remark during a panel discussion of British reactions to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's call for Mr. Rushdie to be killed for allegedly blaspheming Islam in his best-selling novel ''The Satanic Verses.'' He also said that if Mr. Rushdie turned up at his doorstep looking for help, ''I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like.''''I'd try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is,'' said Mr. Islam, who watched a preview of the program today and said in an interview that he stood by his comments.
There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
