riderinthestorm (16,813 posts) Set the scene! Where are you right now? What are you drinking, eating etc? I'm in the family room with the wood stove. Dogs are piled on the sofas, one cat is perched on my shins. Not sure where the other two cats are... In the barn? My husbands teaching and those two like to snuggle with him as he works. Besides the early evening hours in a boarding barn are maximum traffic and those two cats are lovers - they know the best time to catch all the loving from boarders (yes, one of them is orange). I keep my house cool so I've also got a wool blanket over me as I sip wine and post on the iPad Air my dad gave me for my birthday last year. It's been a long day so I'm ache-y and waiting for the Aleve to kick in. I don't have teevee but I have an interesting book to read once I log off DU. My husband will probably come in later and boot me up to bed as usual after I fall asleep here... My wild teenager is safely upstairs creating jewelry to give as Xmas gifts so I'm relaxed and pretty cheery. What's going on in your world?

Arugula Latte (45,492 posts) 2. I'm downstairs in my home office, and I should be getting more work done. I am eating Tillamook sharp cheddar on Ak Mak crackers and drinking a stemless glass of cheapo Chardonnay, hoping the wine loosens my brain cells a bit so I can work more! One teen kid stayed home from school sick and is finally taking a shower upstairs. Other teen kid is still at school for play rehearsal. Husband just got back from a bad December commute. Kitties are wandering around, looking for attention and/or food. One is squawking away (all three are talkers!). One was just curled up next to me on a chair with a fuzzy blanket. I call him my "co-worker." It is pretty darn dark already! Less than two weeks 'til Solstice. I'm still wearing sweats from the morning, but I haven't worked out yet ...

IrishEyes (646 posts) 4. Eating takeout Chinese foodDrinking a soda and watching one of the Friday the Thirteenth films. Tough day at work. Two of my co-workers called in hungover/sick. I know that they were hungover because I went out with them last night but I went home earlier. One girl worked from home on her computer. It wasn't that bad but I had a lot of extra work to do since I'm trying to get things done before my vacation next week. My boss had a ton of little projects that he kept adding to my workload. Plus I had to deal with a customer from hell. I ran around a lot today so I'm going to relax now. I want to get it all done by Friday so I can enjoy my vacation without checking my email and worrying about what is going on at the office.
BlueJazz (20,864 posts) 5. I'm in a Luxurious room siting in a soft recliner watching a 58 inch TV and posting on DU... ...with my 2,467 dollar laptop. I have some royal Chocolate and some fine wine by my side plus 2 beautiful women who adore me. My butler will be .. (Ok..OK..I'm eating a chicken salad sandwich plus my dog is across the room farting up a storm)

Sipping a Belhaven Scottish Ale, checking the reservations for the next few days...got to type up a couple recipes I developed today, then up to the cozy dim Christmas-light festooned bar for a nightcap of house-infused vanilla bourbon and chat with the bartender, nice and soul-warming for a cold snowy night.
petronius (22,896 posts) 12. I am reclining on my sumptuous bed, with an aroma-therapeuto-matic vanilla scented candle nearby, consuming a Sierra Nevada Torpedo (or two. Or three. OK, I'm going to fetch number four), wondering why my cat hasn't come to curl up with me, thinking dark thoughts about all the exams and papers I have to grade, but reveling in the knowledge that a major meeting for tomorrow has just been cancelled... On edit: I neglected to mention that I am rewatching Borgia on Netflix between perusals of DU.
fizzgig (21,649 posts) 13. i have a lovely buzz going on stopped at my bar for a beer on the way home, now i'm in my jammies and most excellent star trek hoodie with a rum drink and a bit of i'm having some porch time (it's a comfortable 30 degrees) and futzing around on the laptop while playing words with friends with my sister. husband is trying to play his computer game on our huge large tv and the cats are somewhere. there's a frozen lasagna in the oven and i'm quite ready for dinner, but it's still a half hour from done. i've only been home for about an hour, so bedtime is still a few hours off. i'll fall asleep watching west wing and then get up and do it all again.
HeiressofBickworth (1,845 posts) 15. I'm squirreled away in a corner of what was formerly the garage. It's not actually a "finished" room, but the walls are insulated, even though the ceiling is open rafters. I have a corner desk, desk lamp, two low dressers with drawers full of craft stuff, and a boom-box playing some 60's oldies CDs. On the walls above me are shelves with my notebooks and books for my genealogy research. I'm surrounded by boxes of stuff. Not good enough to use but not bad enough to get rid of. And besides, it's 90% not mine but belongs to daughter and family (who also live here). There is a carpet over the cement floor and I have a little space-heater at my feet. The rest of the family is in another area of the house watching TV. It's nice and quiet out here. One of the four cats likes to get up on the desk between me and the screen, she isn't here right now but I expect her later.
